Muzzle brakes and point of impact?

I no this has been a topic in the past but just wondering if anyone has any updated information on POI with or with out a brake? Small calibers against large? Small barrels against large? Any info. would be great

When I started Shooting IBS 1000 yard BR in 2008, brakes were not allowed in the HG class, so , since I only had the one gun (300 WBY) I simply removed the brake when I shot the HG class. My impact point would move up 3/4 moa and right 3/4 moa EVERY TIME.

Another thing...I won a PILE of wood with that setup and removing the break..both in LG and HG. Before the last shoot of the year (makeup match in Iowa) I did a little reserch on my targets that year. I noticed that my group size in LG (5 shot groups) were nearly as big as the Hg (10 shot) groups were. So the last match in the afternoon I shot the LG class without the brake and proceeded to shoot the smallest LG group by far that I had EVER shot.......2.7". Not only was there a POI shift, but the tune was better without the brake!! I never practiced with that gun WITHOUT THE BRAKE, so I had no clue.

Setup was a BAT 1.55 "M" round and a 30" Spencer HV tube.
