Muzzle Brake for large caliber

I'm looking for a muzzle brake for a 338 Lapua. Which have yall had good luck with? Do holes on top of a muzzlebrake negatively effect performance?

I've got a harrels on my 7rsaum and I like it. Holes in top are fine, but holes on bottom can kick up dirt if shooting prone. Overall, larger the baffle/or more baffles the better it works.

I really like the Muscle brakes from Piercision Rifles, baffle design makes for good efficiency while negating the back blast. I don't put a top hole in the brake unless it's hopping due to stock design or shooter issues and then I'll put one hole in the top of the first port which keeps it tracking but no slamming the muzzle down.

The best one I have used is an Armalite unit on my 338lm. When I had the stock cut down I did not have enough taken off so I could not put on a butt pad. I am running the flat aluminum butt plate that the pad should screw to.

There are plenty that work very well.

I have the APA Fat Bastard and it makes my 338 feel like a 243, Its a great brake for sure and way better than the factory savage brake

I normally use Ross Schuler brakes but they produce a good amount of concussion. Might be a little much with 90+ grains of powder.

No problem at all. I run Ross's three port on three different 338 edge rifles. Very comparable to the lapua.

Agree 100%. Even the APA causes a fair amount of concussion. It gets old after multiple shots and (for me) requires ear plugs and muffs. As previously stated, the Muscle Brake does a good job of mitigating the back blast. Also, the Cooley brake is very effective and is minimally offensive.

You guys use a brake that actually does not require ear plugs/muffs???

Definitely still have to use plugs. Just would like to not feel like a gorilla slapped me in the head every time I pulled the trigger.

I get away with just muffs on anything that has 90° discharge. With the brakes that discharge rearward, I have to add plugs and get fatigued much quicker from the felt blast. This is just based on my experiences with big 338s and a few 375 CTs.

+1 WITH BIGNGREEN
"I really like the Muscle brakes from Piercision Rifles, baffle design makes for good efficiency while negating the back blast"

i have 4 of these and will not go to anything else! I've had others and this is IMO the best. No dirt in the face a spotter is not blasted if in the right position just an excellent break. I just had Ryan put one on my nephews 300WM.... he's 130 pounds with boats and hunting gear. He wants to shoot his 300 WM over his 243 win as he puts it " but uncle Harv, I see everything from the start of pulling the trigger tell impact of the bullet...it's AWESOME"... uncle can't afford his own reloading habits let alone his nephews...

you will not be disappointed!

I have a 4 port break on my lapua, forget his name, but its exactly like Ross Schulers break, just bigger, both guys share the same website and are affiliated... same break design, ross just doesnt make the bigger ones.. i couldnt ask for a better brake.
