MUST TRY BULLETS FOR THE 6.5X47

Trying to get an order together for my 6.5x47 lap. This is strictly a f-class 600 yrd. rifle. I'm hoping to start testing it this month.

What would be some must try bullets?

Re: MUST TRY BULLETS FOR THE 6X47

The 108 Berger has been shooting great in my 8 twist 6/47L.....

Try Berger 130 VDL's and Lapua 123 Scenars both work very well in my two rifles. My tacti-cool rifle is a Remington action with Lilja 1 in 8.5 set in AICS stock. My F-class rifle is a Surgeon 591 single shot with Kreiger 1 in 8.5 set in Mcm Bros f-class stock. The f-class rifle has shot several sub 1" five shot groups at 300 yards using the Berger 130's and 41grains H4350.

Thanks DAPT I will order some 130 vlds. What about the 123 SMK anyone tried them?

Yep, try the Berger 130 VLDs, and I would recommend the 120 Berger BT over the Sierra 123 - nobody I have talked to has had much luck with them.

Also, if you have some RE-17, the 139 Scenar. A friend just shot a 600-49 at 300 yards in our last F-Class match with this combo - SMOKIN.

Astro,

I started out with the 123 MK's and they were very promising in the beginning with Varget out to 300 yds. I was also developing the 130 VLD with both Varget and H4350. Three weeks ago I ran a 1000 yd Jason Baney ladder and the 130 VLD/H4350 combo spanked the 123MK's in vertical and ES/SD.

4" (39.7 gr for 24 ES/8 SD and 6-3/4" vertical) and (40.1 gr, 2789 fps, 20 ES/5SD) for the 130 VLD vs 7-3/8" vertical, (37.5 gr Varget, 2820 fps, 31 ES/9SD) for the 123 MK.

130 grain Berger VLDs or 130 JLK VLDs have served me very well in my 6.5 x 47 L in F-class at 300 and 600 yards. I think the 6.5 x 47 L is a great choice for the 600 yard line.

That's right, the 139 Scenars and RL 17 are shooting really good for me. Last weekend I was holding 3/4" 10-shot groups at 385 yards! So my advice would be to try RL17 and Scenars, if your gun is not throated really deep then try the 123's, if it is then try the 139's.

I'll second the R-17 plus the 140 berger VLDs in the 1:8 tube. I get better groups at 600 with the 140s over the 130s even thou my gun was cut with a .123 for the 130 berger VLDs. I shot a .383 MOA 4 shot group this weekend at 600.

X3MHunter and Robbin,

What are your guns throat lengths?

Alan

My 6.5 x 47 Lapua has a .200" freebore, my COAL is 2.850", that's about .020" in the lands with the 139 gr. Scenars.

Xm3,

yep! .200 is pretty deep. Mine started life at .104 and after 450 plus rounds is .029 longer. My buddy, mtngrizzly, his started life at .093, .011 shorter than mine.

The 123 Sierra, Scenar and Amax all shoot very well. Some guns like one vs another based on bearing surface/pressure curve, but all shoot well from my 260 a.w.a my buddies 6.5x47
