Muller Octomax barrel

One might assume Paul has more than one button.
People don’t realize, with regularity, shops usually require more than a single button for the same configurations, even different bore dimensions.
That said, none of them are typically EXACTLY the same.
Very true. Good point.

Over the years Muller has had: 4MI, 8MI, 90 Driver, Octomax, Octodriver, 5R, 7R, 4MI Modified. Would not surprise me if they have had more, but those are ones I am familiar with.

Wonder do they still make some of them. Only ones I see listed anymore are the 4mi and 8mi. I would like to see how the octodriver does. Had a 4mi. And just never really did that well. Have a 8 mi now it shoots really well. Interested to see how the Octomax does when it gets finished

Well, I have posted several times over the years that rifling profile has less to do with on target performance as compared to what the quality of the lot of steel that the barrel was made from. In the past, I have seen some batches of barrels that had a bunch of really good barrels come out of it. Other batches from a different lot number of steel, not so much. I have a Muller 8MI that is really good, and there were a ton of really good barrels that came from that lot of steel, both 4MI and 8MI. I also have a Muller 4MI that was from a different lot of steel that is even better. Both barrels smithed by the same guy.

I know this is an old post . But some people asked me to post when I got around to shooting this rifle.
We finally got a break in the weather and got to try it out yesterday. Was temps were in the 30’s. Not the greatest.
Barrel seems like it’s gonna shoot very well. Shot some good groups. With it with a few different ammo’s . Rifle is a Suhl 150 that my daughter is getting in to shooting with. She is very proud of it. Also Evelio McDonald did all the work on it. He was great to work with. Definitely recommend him to anyone looking to get rifle work done.

So after all the fuss and bother the outcome is just what you would expect. Shooter sends parts to smith....smith does the work....Shooter is happy.

Okay, here is some additional information as well as some irony! Yesterday, I finally got around to installing and shooting my Muller Octomax barrel. Ironic it was only a day after the OP got to shoot his. As far as information, that barrel is tight! I could tell the first patch I ran down it. The day was anything but optimal for testing, but I plan on shooting the rifle/barrel combo this weekend at an indoor match and at least needed to get the rifle sighted in. With the wind nixing any hope of proper tunning procedure, I just spun the tuner out to 175 and shot, waiting on the flags. I only did 5 click outs on the tuner and finally ended at 195 and things looked better. I shot a partial card while doing this and after I was kind of satisfied with how the gun was shooting the shots that were shot for score were very good. Especially considering wind, not a finished tune, and I only shot one lot of ammo, 100rds of 2019 Eley 6 machine Match. Now results this weekend will NOT tell me much more, as indoor IME, is way more ammo dependent than outdoor, but I'm still going to shoot it. I will reiterate, that barrel is tight. The initial patches before the barrel was shot were tight. They were even tighter after 50rds fouling buildup in the bore.

Thanks for the feed back Scott. Sounds like your day was similar to mine. Weather was not good for testing. But so far barrel looks good.
