Muley rifle

I am going to be hunting mule deer this fall and would like to know your thoughts on my rifle choice. I will be using a 260AI throwing 140 amax's. It is my favorite gun to shoot because i shoot it well. It is dytomite on white tails and antelope.

Enough gun??

Mulies are pretty easy to kill, they're nowhere near as skittish as whitetails. If you can get within 300 yards you're almost guaranteed a deer. We used to hunt them in WY, kind of like shooting cows. Wife's .243 was more than enough at 200-250.

Look no farther You've found the perferct deer rifle. A 260 AI. Some say the A-Max is not a good bullet to shoot game with. I believe in accuracy, they will do that. If you have not had any trouble with that bullet yet. Go kill your mulie.

Plenty enough gun, great long range choice. Since you shoot it well, you will be confident. Have a good hunt.

Thanks guys. The guys I'm hunting with all have magnunitus. mag, ultra mag ,mega mag, super mag, short mag. I've never been one for those kind of guns.

You might look at using a hunting bullet as oposed to a target bullet. I would try shooting the berger 130 VLD Hunting bullet. I have used the Nosler 120 BT on deer and antelope out past 300 yds in a 6.5-06, it shot thru then most of the time. I'm using a 7mm now with the 168 Berger Hunting and killed moose, antelope.

The Amax is awesome on deer. I wouldn't elk hunt with it because of its explosive nature

No need for big magnums on deer. About the only advantage a large mag has is bucking high winds. They will generally drift less with the heavier and faster moving bullets. But the 140AMax will do you just fine on deer in any wind if you know where she hits.

I have shot mule deer with the 270, 7mmRM, and 257RAI.

I have only shot targets with my 260.

I could shoot them with a 25-20.
I could shoot them with a 338WM.

I might do that this year.

The 260 has a modest recoil and is easy to shoot. A 6.5 is my favorite bullet for deer. Shot one last year with a 260 and it dropped where it was standing. Currently building a 6.5-47AI.
