MRAD vs. MOA -- Click Value Discussion

I live in SW Idaho. I shoot Rockchucks at distances from 100 to 600 yards. Occasionally out to 1000. They are six inches wide and a foot tall. They move almost constantly, foraging.
I have to see them, range them with my SIG, dial the distance, and shoot. Occasionally, I have to hold over.
You gentlemen shooting targets have the luxury of a stationary target.

Boss: you must not hunt out west much. Nothing stands still out here very long. The wolf packs keep the game moving.

thanks to all,

ISS

I am an old geezer, 74.
1mrad = 3.9"
.1mrad =.39".

Why would any accuracy shooter use the comparatively coarse mrad click value scope?
MOA scopes mostly use 1/8th inch click values. One click (theoretically) moves the bullet 1/8th of an inch.
For instqnce: If I am shooting for score and the bullet strike is 1/2" outside the center of the X-ring. With moa I just click over four clicks and I am in the 10-ring. With mrad I cannot get there. .1mrad moves the bullet .39".

What am I missing here?

Where to start here…….

1 Mrad at 100 yards is 3.6” (3.9” at 100M)

“most” MOA scopes these days do not use 1/8 MOA clicks.

Dont think “I’m moving my scope “x” amount of inches at a given distance…….rather think “ I need to move my scope 1/2 MOA or 1/8 MOA or .2 MILs

When fine adjustments are needed MILS are probably not as useful as 1/8 or 1/4 MOA clicks. But they can be.

MIL based scopes are very at home in PRS type shooting both centefire and rimfire levels.

Keep in mind there are a lot of games to play in the rifle world these days.

This discussion has been going on since Adam and Eve....almost. The only thing real about it is, the fact that it is a discussion. In actuality a serious shooter can and will use either, or both, or neither, but he WILL find a way to shoot accurately. So pick your poison and enjoy yourself. :)

I'm an old geezer too, 72. With the proliferation of hash type reticles you have the ruler in the reticle so it's seldom necessary to actually convert to inches or cm. Whether its MIL or MOA it becomes a moot point. The only tripping point is to make sure the power is set correctly when using a second focal plane scope.

In general I've been seeing more and more shooters talk about drop in MILS or MOA and less in terms of inches.

It's no different than when you walk over to your tool chest, different tools for different tasks.

All these mil vs moa comments one better than the other coming from folks whom many would think are seriously over anal about every little piece of shooting equipment they have... just seems like a miss

Variety is the spice of life, embrace it.
