Moving To Oak Ridge Tennessee

On August 1st of this year I will be IN Oak Ridge. I know of the Oak Ridge gun club, I also know of Dead Zero not too far away. It will take me a week or so to get set up etc... BUT I would like to shoot an F-Class match at the Oak Ridge Club. I also know you have to have a sponsor to join (I think that is an excellent idea) and I am sure I will meet other shooters there, one of which may sponsor me so I can join the club.
QUESTION: Is there anyone here who shoots at Oak Ridge and can give me some of the "ins and out" of the range and it's F-Class schedule? I would certainly appreciate it. Thank You!!
Here is a MSM event to get you tuned up. Good people to shoot with.

I will be shooting at the Oak Ridge club and Dead Zero>>>>and any other place within a reasonable drive.. I am certain I will run into you somewhere along one of those lines!
Yeah...and then along the I-40 corridor there's the TN MR State Championship coming up at the Memphis Sport Shooting Association on 23 -24 Oct; and the LR "Iron Man" Match put on by North State Shooting Club at Camp Butner on 20 - 21 Nov.

I have some fond memories of Oak Ridge when I was in the Marine Corps shooting the regionals there and very nice VFW club there but that was 60 years ago..... how time flies .... jim
Then you have probably been to Big Ed's (considering how long Ed or his son sponsored a very big SR match there)

@ShootDots if you are moving there from out west and are accustomed to the open ranges there you are in for a learning curve.

  1. - usually there isn't the wind you get out west. You will rarely ever need more than 2 MOA, but the niggling 9s will eat your lunch. (I shoot F-TR, it's not quite as bad for F-O)
  2. - Flags are often unreadable. The terrain and trees in the east makes them not read true. They tell you something, it's up to you to figure out what it is, often it's don't shoot till they speak something I understand
  3. -At Oak Ridge never ever shoot if the 900 yard flag has come up in a headwind. (you will get at least a high 9 on an F class target)
  4. -Pay no attention to the red flag buy the targets at Tullahoma
  5. - There are wind tunnels at Tullahoma, but you'll figure that out
  6. If you go over to Butner in NC (and you should).. the wind there can switch faster than any place I've ever shot
  7. The target carriers at Butner are one step away from two to a mound shooting.

Ben,
Pay really close attention to #1 from @XTR.
I was shooting next to the match director and saw no change in the condition and sent one down the middle. It came up a fat 9 out the side! Bear in mind this is on a sling target! I looked at Larry and said, "WTF"?? I'll never forget his response. "Welcome to Oak Ridge".
As a side note, everyone else was out that fired during that time.
You're gonna have a hoot there!!
