Motorhome-Friendly F-Class Ranges?

DE-F-Open

Gold $$ Contributor
Just purchased a 35'motorhome so that my wife and I can travel to matches without staying in hotels and eating in restaurants where COVID-19 might be lurking - us Grand Seniors gotta be careful, don't ya know?

Now I'm looking for ranges that I can visit that won't get upset if I park that big vehicle in the parking lot while I shoot F-Class - (Already had one of our top ranges here on the East Coast tell me I can't park in their lot - too bad, it's a great range to shoot, will miss going there)

Also looking for ranges that might allow a shooter to "dry camp" on the range overnight, before, during, and/or after a match.

I am especially interested in Long Range matches/ranges, but would also be interested in getting information on 600 yard mid-range opportunities as well. I am on the east coast but "Have Gun Will Travel", so anywhere in the USA could be an option. (Already know about Ben Avery and the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM.)

Would appreciate any and all useful information.

Thanks,

John

I pull my camper every where I go shoot but usually camp near by. You need to pull a car behind that thing and then no need to limit your possibilities.

Long Range Alley just outside of Shreveport has the space. They have 1000 Sat/ 600 Sunday matches often and every 3rd Sat is 1000yds. I can find out from the M.D. if overnight camping would be allowed.

Great and challenging range, well run matches, covered 1000yd line.

Thanks - sounds good...

If you make it all the way out to California Sacramento and Coalinga both are rv friendly.

OK John, you are in luck. This is the match director, Ric Clarke's reply:

"Sure is an option at LRA. We have 4 full service RV spaces ($25.00 per night) that are available. He can pull in the day before the match but can’t do any shooting until the match, range rules.

By the way, just found out yesterday morning, we won’t be having any matches until the 3rd week of February. 1000yd range will be closed to all shooting during the month of January due to the natural gas drillers pulling water from the pond on the 1000yd range. They’ll have people on the range 24/7 working with pumps and stuff. Was going to wait until after Christmas before putting the official word out because the closure timeframe is still a little up in the air. I’ll keep y’all informed as I find out more information. Hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

As Always, Stay Safe and Healthy,

Ric"

You will likely be able to dry camp in the parking area at the the 1000yd firing line; the full service spots are not by the firing line from my observations. Hope to meet you out there this year. We do get some low lifes from Arkansas and Texas that you will have to tolerate. However, they shoot OK I guess.:p:p:p

Thanks!!!!

Manatee, in South Florida, has hookups and dry camping areas.

The F Class matches are.only to 300 yards as far as.I know. No idea why they do not seem to do 600. There is IBS BR there.

Awww, too bad... I was hoping to find something to shoot someplace where where it's warm this winter.

Capitan Hi-Power, in Capitan, NM has space for camping. They don't start shooting F-Class until April. Don't know if they'd allow non-members to camp, have to contact them.

To confirm what Catfur said, you are welcome at Capitan Shooting Sports in Capitan, NM. www.capitanhipower.com Next years schedule isn't up and ready yet, but will be within a month. It will be very similar to what is posted. Being in the middle of Lincoln National Forest, there are also many campgrounds and RV parks in the area.
