most popular bullet for 6.5 creedmoor ?

just starting to get components and want to shoot from 500 to 1000 yards, with H4350 I guess and wonder what bullets work for accuracy in handloads,

sure there are lots but what is being used in competitions like PRS and some fclass (although not popular in f-class one would think)

When you run the numbers, I think the extra velocity you get from running the lighter 130's, in cases sizes like the 6.5 Creed and 260 Rem, favor them over the 140's so I wouldn't rule out the high BC 130's like the Berger.

Does Berger make a 130 hybrid that does not appear on their website? I am shooting the 130 VLD, but keep reading references to a 130 hybrid. Would someone please teach me the secret handshake so I can buy some?

Hornady 140 and 147 ELDs work great for PRS matches. I used the 140 AMAX prior to these since 2008 in PRS matches but now shoot the factory ammo with the 140 and 147s but also load them. You can load very accurate ammo with these bullets.

Here's a 5 shot group when I started testing the 147 ELD factory ammo. It's at 650 yards. I shot the bottom three and with only seeing one splash I moved my aiming point up slightly and shot the top two. group was just a little larger at 800 yards. Plenty accurate enough for PRS. I shot my handloads into a 6-7" group at 1020 yards. No place local to shot that with the factory ammo now that I moved.

Thanks!
So...what does OTM mean? I see a lot of references to it, but no definitions.

As JBT says. This is a HPBT in literally all but name. OTM derives from the US military after the US Army and USMC started using sniper ammunition loaded with Sierra MatchKings having received legal advice that these small meplat HPs don't contravene the Hague Convention bar on the use of smallarms projectiles designed to expand on impact in warfare.

However ......... presumably for legal / PR /political correctness reasons it seems the dual word description 'hollow point' is a no-no, so HPBT transmogrifies itself into the more PC and friendly sounding 'Open Tip Match'.

This must be one of the weirdest bits of human logic, not to say hypocrisy that sees journos, lawyers, politicians and other opinion formers in society apparently prepared to have the military drop a 155mm HE shell (as an example) onto the nation's enemies despite its distributing thousands of whirling razor sharp shell-casing fragments around it in a large radius at supersonic speeds which will sever limbs and mangle torsos. Yet they worry about the correctness and public / political reaction over the names we give a little 6.5 or .308 bullet.

Returning to the OP, as always whichever bullet gives best results (precision + small ES values) in your rifle's barrel with a sideways look at its BC.

When I played with a loaned Savage 12 LRP in 6.5 Creedmoor a year or two back, the outstanding bullet in that particular rifle was the cheap, relatively low BC and pretty much unappreciated 140gn Nosler Custom Competition that shot very small short-range groups and got under the half-MOA mark in the 'factory rifle' class at 1,000 yards in a UK Benchrest Association match, and that despite a modest 2,710 fps MV.

Any half decent 130-140gn 6.5 has a pretty good BC. Find something that shoots well before getting too hot and bothered about this aspect. FWIW, I think Berger's 130gn AR-Hybrid OTM Tactical (this again .... Aaarggh! :() may prove to be an outstanding design for the smaller 6.5mm cartridges especially where there are COAL constraints or magazine feed is needed.

.......... and for those getting frustrated looking for it in Berger's listings. Don't look under the Target bullets heading, look instead for the small 'Tactical' section. I reckon Berger must lose some sales through this nomenclature and method of listing it - I too spent a long while searching for this bullet online after I knew it was in production before the 'Tactical penny dropped'. ('Shoe dropped' ?? IN US English?)

Berger 130 Tactical AR Hybrid OTM for the 22” 8-twist .260, and Berger 140 Target Hybrid for the 22” 8-twist 6.5 CM.

I've seen them at midway, brownells , and bullets.com.

How do you get a 130 Gr (or heavier) bullet to seat in the neck of a 6.5 Creedmoor so that the base of the bullet is above the neck/shoulder junction and still fit in a short action magazine. Are you guys using long actions with the 6.5 Creedmoor? Please explain.

6.5 CM is an AR10-length cartridge, in a gas gun, and similar OAL to a .260 Rem or .308 Win so it’s a mag-length short-action for most bullets in a bolt gun. Maybe you were thinking about a 6.5 Grendel, which can fit an AR15 magazine with the right length bullets.
