Most bang for the money

From all of my reading the most economical rifle to build and most versatile is a 308 bolt gun.I can use it in Palma,High power & F-class.And if I keep the weight down or set it up with 2 barrels I can shoot international Palma.Also brass and bullets are readily available and reasonably priced.Barrels will last 2500+ rounds.Scopes are available already set up specifically for the 308's ballistics.
Now all I have to do is save up my pennies.

You are basically correct. The only "do it all" rifle for centerfire position shooting is a NRA match rifle in .308.,XTC,MR,LR,Palma). Basically a Win M70 action with a 5 round magazine and a "Highpower" stock. They shoot real good too. I get beat by them all the time. No need for a switch barrel, get a 1/12 and you can shoot 155gr - 190gr bullets. I wish .308 bullets were cheep.

I would not build one as there are a lot of them out there and are easy to find used. Check LR.com, National Match.com, even Gunbroker.
