Most Accurate Powder Scale ?

In 308 (200 grain hybrid) load 0.04 grains of powder changes velocity by 2 fps, yep 2 fps. Which translates to 0.2" of elevation at 900 meters ~ 1000 yards.

Who has a 1000 yard long vacuum tunnel to test that?

We worry too much .

That is assuming you had 0fps es within that string to compare that number with. And assuming all the cases had the same capacity and reacted the same way.. What you start experiencing is stacked tolerences and this is why we worry about weighing charges as fine as we can , or I do anyway.

This thread started me thinking about how accurate my A&D FX-120i scale is today after about 16 mo and thousands of loads. Emailed A&D and got a response from the Canadian distributor. They don't offer a tune up service but would look at the scale for $244. I decided it was spot on

No experience with A&D FX-120i but I am very very pleased with my Entris 64-1s. At almost 2X the price of the A&D I would be hard pressed to call it a "best buy". But I believe it is the best for what we're doing. In my mind, given how much we pay for custom actions, stocks, scopes, barrels, bullets/brass/powder, dies, rests/bags, match travel/hotels, etc, etc... the incremental dollars are worth it.

That's pretty much what I'm saying. 2 fps difference in velocity gets lost in many other factors.
I agree things stack up, but adding 2fps to that stack won't make a noticeable difference.
BTW I also try to trickle to within single kernel as well, but I don't sweat over 0.02 grains this way or that way, that's all. But again I haven't won any championships either lol.

Well now...... Ain't that sweet of them. Wonder if there are any "independent" shops in the US that deal with out of warranty high end scales? Might be useful info to have just in case.

Example: My out of warranty GM truck's 4WD stopped engaging. The dealer wanted close to $100 just to do a 'look-see' and give an actual estimate. And no, the $100 does not come off if I have them actually do the repair. Okay, Mama didn't rsise no fool so I went to a reputable independent. He did a quick look and found out a neoprene vaccum line was broken and simply replaced 3' of line. 4WD fixed in 10 minutes and he charged a whopping big $10 for the 3' of line and his troubles.

Regards......

I'll add that extra info to my original post. Cambridge Enviro is a Canadian Company.

Current Exchange rates $710CAD to USD = $529.30

If you are around a barrel node it does not make sense.
Otherwise how do you explain BR shooters using powder dispensers only at bench?

Rcbs 304 scale. Hard to find and pricey. Just sold mines for $600 shipped.

There is far too much hype about this scale! It is identical to the Dial-O-Gram scale that Ohaus has supplied for decades to middle school science classrooms. The only difference is in the graduation plates on the beams and dial. Anyone who has used these scales in class can attest to their lack of repeat-ability.

I could see that, and glad i cashed out as i didnt use it much. Im not shooting BR right now so ill use my chargemaster and M5 for now.

One day ill send my M5 to scott for one of those quality tune ups

How? As long as load is tuned up, a kernel or two of powder (more or less) doesn't make a significant difference.

I think one of these days I'm going to test how much this powder weighing really matters... It wouldn't be hard to do at all.

Take a known good load with low SD. Load up 10 rounds, weighing to the kernel.

Then load up 10 rounds with randomly variable powder weight charges. Go shoot both strings and compare the SD and vertical... they might not be as bad as you expect.

To get yourself a list of random charge weights, use MS Excel. Enter the formula listed at this link....

http://smallbusiness.chron.com/generate-random-variable-normal-distribution-excel-74203.html

where B2 is the target charge weight in grains and B3 is the standard deviation of your hypothetical crappy scale.
