Most Accurate Mechanical Scale?

Whats the best mechanical scale to look for? Is it possible to get competition worthy loads using a mechanical scale?

Thanks

There is a guy who tune's scale's on here and they are way more accurate than in original form. The 505,10-10 rcbs are good and so is the redding and so forth, they are all made by ohaus.I am sure someone will chime in with the fellas name that offer's this service.

Any mechanical scale worked over by Scott Parker. Personally, I have a SP tweaked Redding.

I had my Ohaus 10-10 tuned by Scott. he did an excellent job. I'm not sure if he works on the new RCBS 10-10, now that they are made in Mexico.

My tuned scale shows the addition or removal of a single kernal of powder.

+1 for Scott Parker.

I bought a tuned Redding beam scale from him a couple of years ago. It's accuracy exceeds that of most of the digital scales.

Scott posts on here fairly regularly and I think has a facebook page. (use the search function)

Is the Ohaus 10.0.5 scale any good? Also whats the difference between the 10.0.10 the 10.0.5 and the 5.0.5?

Thanks

Yes, the 10-5 is a good scale, although now longer made. It has many of the attributes of the 10/10; in fact I’m sure the beams are interchangeable. It has the 10/10 micrometre style poise adjustment and also the same “approach to weight” spring. It has the ubiquitous RCBS floating Agate bearings/knife edge system and a good steady base.
The 505 and the 502 use the same body; the only difference is that the 502 has only two poises to set the desired weight and the 505 has three.
As all of the common RCBS scales (excluding the R130 and the 304) use exactly the same floating Agate bearing/knife edge system none is more accurate that the other.

Never have run across a rcbs R130 so cannot comment on them.

Have had a 304, and it is an accurate easy to use scale. The large dial is handy. It does use agate/knife pivots on the beam and the pan hanger.

Anyone know if he can do anything to the old redding scales? Or are they scale any good?

Also whats a good way to get ahold of him? I tried emailing him , PMing him here and asked a question on his facebook page with no replies.

Thanks

The Redding No 2 tunes well and is a good solid scale, nice clearly marked beam and no frills - I know Scott tunes these with good results.
The older Redding No 1's are oil damped and can be picked up for pennies but are still an excellent scale. I have converted some of these to magnetic damping and they perform very well.
