mossberg mvp prefit barrel

Random odd question bc I know most ppl don't bother spending the time to fool with them but I liked the action feel and accuracy of the two mossberg 4x4s better than all the savages and 700s I have. Anyways I recently ran across a mossberg 308 mvp in the mdt chassis on unbroken and was a deal I couldn't pass on. I'd love to re barrel it in 260 preferably , or 6.5 creedmoor If need be, & haven't found any prefits available. X-caliber used to but I believe they quit. It'll be a few years before I'm able to buy a lathe and do it myself, but was going to ask if anybody knew a place that would do a little custom work for someone or made prefits for these. Ptg started selling new barrel nuts for these so figured somebody might of started making a few or why else would they sell them?

PT&G barrel nut is 7/8x28tpi MVP5.56 ONLY. MVP308 uses 1.0x20tpi I believe. You will either need to build/buy a jig for assembly or have the recoil lug pinned including slot/hole in receiver, plus purchase or build a barrel nut wrench.

Look for a smith that can take off the old barrel, measure the dimensions and threads, then install a new chambered and threaded barrel using the shoulder torqued to the lug/action. Should be fairly easy with smithy/machinist skills

My understanding of why shops bail on the Mossberg prefits is the receiver thread clocking isn't consistent. That's second or third hand information though.

I rebarreled my MVP308 Varmint to 6xc. I used a standard 1.25" shank Shilen blank and just skipped the nut. While I had it apart, I threaded a small shank Savage take off barrel into the MVP action. The threads are the same 1.062x20. There are some dimensional differences in the length of the receiver threads and bolt face recess, but my take was a Savage prefit or take off was likely to work if you knew what you were doing.
