Mosquito tag need

What bugs bug you? In my stand this evening by the river hundreds of mosquitoes. Horse flies are second on my hate list. I can handle a bee string much better the a horse fly. Who do you hate? Mike

I've heard them called 3 corner flies and they bite like h--l. Mosquitoes are more of a pain in the -ss. Bee stings, I'm allergic and always carry an epipen. I guess though if you had hundreds of mosquitoes coming at you it would be more than a pain in the -ss.:(

These will solve your mosquito problem while in a stand: https://www.cabelas.com/product/MR-REPELLER/2455394.uts?slotId=0
Nothing seems to keep those little black no seeums away. They are out here about 2 months every summer and then gone.

They are all bad, but the two most painful insects around here are these two...the cow killer aka "velvet ant" and the cicada killer aka "horse hornet":P9270008.JPG P9270009.JPG P9270007.JPG

I've been stung by a horse hornet and it feels like you are getting jabbed with a red hot glowing ice pick. They say the velvet ant is called a "cow killer" because it's sting inflicts enough pain to kill a cow. The most expensive insect here is the termite...I just got done with a dose of them. I hate them all!!!!!!
About every five or so years I will find a dead tarantula hawk. These are a big black wasp with a funny looking long almost winged extension with a big stinger. They say it inflicts the most painful sting of anything. Luckily, I have only ever found them already dead. I'll snap a photo of the next one.
Mosquitoes get so bad around here in the early fall that you can swipe your hand thru the air and it leaves a clear spot!!! 100% DEET does the trick though.

I'm allergic to bee stings as well but benedryl is enough for me. Never heard of black noseeum's, but lived in FL and the white/clear ones down there are mean little bast****'s. Fireant's too.

Chiggers- You don't know about them until it's too late. Plan your relaxing bleach bath accordingly.
Wasps- The original carrier of the Molon Labe flag. A fella can spot the Yellowjacket Highstep from a quarter mile away.
Fireants- They're just a$$ho!es. They don't fight fair, either. Expect them to bring their buddies to that party, too.

What type of hunting, what type of stand?

I recently stumbled upon a concentrate chemical called Tempo SC Ultra. I carry a half gallon pump up sprayer and use it to soak down the area around my stand. That coupled with the therma cell pretty much makes my hunting a bug free experience.

Oh yes I remember them. I got them bad in the Army in Panama. Second time I went there I had Harts flea and tick collars around my ankles, through my belt loops and around my neck. It worked. Mike

How many of you guys remember that Army insect repellent in the little olive drab plastic bottle that would strip the finish right off your gun?? It had to be cost effective, it could double as bore cleaner and paint stripper too!!! I hated having to put that stuff on my skin. It was very effective insect repellent though. I actually still have one bottle of that stuff and it stays in my survival kit. Probably work as bear repellent.
Who else remembers using Avon "Skin So Soft" lotion??? Used to use that stuff all the time coon hunting in the warm months...got stopped by a game warden one night to check our licenses. We got some funny looks. Imagine pulling over two truck loads of rough looking hillbillies with miner lights and boots that all smelled "real sweet"!!!!!

When stationed in Alaska I had a small multi fuel stove. Used that bug juice as fuel once in a pinch.

Bald-faced hornets are more mean and miserable than me...
Last summer i was cutting with a bush hog with weeds about 4-5 ft high. Happened to see more than just a couple bugs ahead of me on the side i just cut. There was a bald faced hornet nest in the weeds about one foot from where i just passed. Only time i've ever seen them. My good neighbor torched em. Meanest looking hornet i ever saw.
