Mortar ID or something else?

Is this what's called a Hotchkiss? Maybe to new for hotchkiss. Underside of nose says 1916 and 20 25 as pic shows. Found this in my late father-in-laws stuff. He spent a lot of time roaming around the woods as a timber cruiser but someone could have given it to him. Thoughts or ideas? Looks like some in google photos but not exact.

Doesn't look like any type of mortar round or fuze, more like a projectile.
