More Scammers Trying to Register

Check the Area code of the message -- make sure it is consistent with the REAL seller's location.
I can see the reason behind this logistic but this method is no longer practical way to verify nowadays. It has been about 25 years since cell phones became common and most of us do not even have land lines anymore today. In that time span a lot of us have since relocated into the next area code, into the next state and even across the country while we kept our cell numbers.

Also just be mindful that a lot of honest shooters like us are hearing impaired or deaf and cannot always execute voice calls ourselves.

Forum Boss: Yes there may be an issue for some members with hearing -- but this is still a vital security measure. The scammers do typically claim that they can't hear -- that is typically used as an excuse to a request for a voice conversation.

I started using the internet back in 1997, using "Dial-up" as that is all we had. Over the years as advancement made in the internet, I've noticed the internet is being used to steal from others. This is a shame as it seems that when something good comes along, there is alway group of individuals trying to use the internet for evil or stealing.
I can remember logging onto the internet using an IBM PC XT with256K of memory. Used Compuserve and still remember my number! The cost was fairly cheap for a 300 baud connection, well over a dollar a minute or higher connection speed.

Regarding thievery over the internet, it ain't the platforms fault, it's the fault of dishonest human beings trying to get the best of honest and unsuspecting folks. They will get theirs someday. In the meantime lets follow the forum boss' very sage advices.

Just an FYI. My Credit Union wants their members to use Zelle for money transfers. It is their preferred way to transfer money. A little over 2 weeks ago our checking account was hacked. Not our ATM or credit card, our checking account was hacked and we lost a considerable amount of money through a fraudulent Zelle transfer. We don't use Zelle, never have. When we notified the CU of the fraud they cancelled all of our accounts and we had no access to our money for nearly 2 weeks. Fortunately we have a CC with another bank and have been able to access funds and make purchases with that card. We still don't have checks and I still can't use an ATM. It has been holy hell trying to get things fixed with new accounts, changing all direct deposits and bill payments. The Credit Union is trying to get the fraudulent Zelle transaction reversed but I am not gonna hold my breath. That money is zeros and ones in the digital hinterlands. DO NOT USE ZELLE FOR ANYTHING. PERIOD. NOT FOR ANYTHING WITH ANYONE. PERIOD. THE RISK IS VERY REAL AND SUBSTANTIAL. We could have lost everything. We are very lucky we only lost what we did.
Our CU won't use Zelle for that very reason.

I was a member of a Marlins forum for a long time and they shut it down, 1 of the members started another forum and I joined it, life happened and went through a couple computers before I remembered that site, several years had passed but I remembered my password, My mouth fell to the floor when I seen I had made 20k posts and some real recent. I posted who I was and that whoever was ghosting me was going to get put in jail, demanded my account be wiped out, it had to be somebody there that had access to passwords, it was canceled asap, that was my first and last problem on the net. I just don't understand some folks, you all ever see me trying to sell something it ain't me, I'm more of a buyer and that's been very rare, prefer new so I know when I screw something up :p

We are very fortunate to have Forum Boss, and it is a shame that his time has to be wasted because of these criminals! I am taking all of your advice now for future transactions here and elsewhere. I have had several great phone conversations and opportunities here with solid members, it only takes letting your guard down once to become a victim and as in my case a targeted victim for another transaction scam from the same individual. Member profile research, Phone conversation with many requested details, multiple verification photos on item listed, Money Order or Check no more electronic payments. Report issues to Forum Boss from now own in addition to post to warn other members of possible scammers information identification, numbers and emails or any details given.
Thank you Boss for all your efforts to keep this Forum safe and the best place to be to share and learn.

I know of no other method to get somebody's long password, but I'm not a hacker or very computer savvy to be honest, reckon I would starve to death trying to cheat somebody out of something :D
