More fuel on the 30BR powder fire . . .

I tried Norma 200 a few years ago. I was “given” 16 pounds of it by a friend who was trying to make it work in his 6PPC.

The results were not bad at all. The problem was, they weren’t great. It simply would not Agg with 4198.
The way the 30 caliber game has evolved in the pst few years, you simply cannot leave anything on the table.

I am really interested in Randy’s 2200/Peterson brass test. More the Peterson brass aspect.

The single problem is, it is too short for my chamber. I do have my original 30BR reamer from years ago before I went to the longer neck. If the Peterson proves just as good as Lapua, the ease of making cases would make it worthwhile.

As of now, I have signed on to the N-130 bandwagon. It has been shooting quite well, but it is a little slower than most of the other powders, (except 322).

When those I shoot with first started with the 30 BR we used N-130 but it became unobtanium one year so switched to H-4198 and stayed there. Now that it is unobtanium I switched to LT-30. Recently others have started using N-120 with good results. I bought a lug of it to try.

In two of my rifles; a VFS rifle and a Hunter rifle, it takes just about a grain more N130 that H4198 to deliver the same velocity and level of precision. But both rifles shoot pretty good. I do have a different lot of N130 to test as well.

I've shot a lot of Reloader 7 over the years with great results. I used to shoot it in the 30-44's I shot for years and in my 30 BR's. I found the same load of Reloader 7 or nearly the same shoots the same as H-4198. The price of Reloader 7 went crazy so I haven't bought any recently.

Yesterday was a pretty decent day - 7-10 wind and 44* F. It appears that I, "chickened-out" on going higher with the AA-2200 charge weight! These results suggest, that as with H-4227, Win 680,etc., there is likely another node just below excessive pressure - I was expecting MagnetoSpeed readings in the 3,000 - 3050+ FPS range.

For small-medium capacity thirty caliber cartridges, with most powders, following an initial group shrinkage/plateau, there is a "blow-up", then, another 1.5-2.0 Gr. higher, another "node". So, I cannot quit yet - next opportunity, I'll also shoot "control groups" with H-4198; Tu-2000; & H-322, along with chasing the powder charge-weight to practical limits.

The head scratching will be, "on the reader" - some interesting [tuning] tendencies seem obvious. RG

The target. For scale, the red-rings are 3/8Ths" wide, while individual bullet-holes are about .299" Dia.

It's mostly been said that, although Vhitavouri 133 is the go to
powder for the 6ppc, it's too slow for the 30 BR.....I think I have
a way to make that powder work. I have another cat to skin....LOL
And Mike....Is that new tuner design coming along ?? I may need
it for the 30BRAT.....I have another bad idea in the works....Stay tuned !!

Bill, that's not surprising as 133 is right there with H322 and BMark for burn rates. I've shown my testing with BMark here. Bulk density matters more than a little.
