More crap I don't need: Vintage Sniper - M40 Edition.

“Spirit and intent” to historical correctness don’t win matches. 10s and Xs do… use those rules or lack there of as written to put your best foot forward to shoot big scores…

Well, one of those rifles shot a 394-17x. Next score on the list was a 358-3x. Not my score to brag about, the guys shooting it are world class.

Aaron - Not taking anything away from an outstanding match win with that rifle, but most Vintage Sniper rifle competitors are using antiquated poor quality optics on old rifles that are much less ergonomic than an M40 with a 3x9. Also most of the competitors in Vintage Sniper matches are usually very vintage them selves. They are also shooting the sling targets so a 2 MOA 10 ring is not hard to hit with a tuned rifle and optic of that quality.

While I would love to build one of these and shoot the CMP VS matches for the fun, it is a pretty short heap to be on top of until many of the better shooters start to shoot with their M40's too.

I expect a number of high X cleans @ Perry this year with these rifles if the weather is any kind of decent.

I agree. I have heard a lot of experienced competitors ( including you ) building these rifles. Between the increase in quality of the rifles and the shooters it will be an X count game. But the current state of VS is not typically multiple cleans in a match.

For sure. It's unfair to compare the M40's to the rest of the "vintage" lineup. I've built 6 I think so far.. I'm sure other guys have built as many or more. It'll be it's own class soon.

I'm much more of a service/any/Palma guy, but these M40 builds are catching my eye, for sure. I can't help but thing the vintage sniper matches will be MUCH more interesting this year.

@LVLAaron , you're doing some fine work on these. They're super sharp rifles...not just VS rifles. I could easily see taking one of these to the deer woods. Simple and super classy.
