Montana

Just got back from Montana shooting P-dogs. 10 days straight on three ranches. 2 of the ranches were extremely dry with very little vegetation. Really putting the hurt on the dogs. 3 out of the 10 days were 100 degrees. One ranch was pretty good and we took a lot off that ranch but it was a lot greener with way more vegetation. Be safe out there guys.

What little dog towns i know of here in az i think i might leave them alone this year. It is soooo dry here i dont want to whipe them out then wont have fun another time. We will see if we get any rain this monsoon season.

Yep. Coldest I’ve seen in my lifetime here is -72F. Hottest I’ve seen was probably 107F. One extreme to the other. Montana is beautiful but the weather gets brutal.
Forgive my ignorance. I honestly didnt know it got that hot. I expected highs of 80s to 90.

Kicker is the humidity though. That makes 100 feel good or miserable.

About 6-8 years ago we broke a record with 30+ days of 90 or above.
Mid 90's it was 7 straight days of -30 to -42 in a row.
Winter of 96 - 97 flathead valley got 160" of snow

I envy you!

In 2013 we had over a month where it never got warmer than -20F. At night would sometimes be -35F and probably averaged about -24F day to day during that month long super freeze. No such thing as humidity in temps that cold because any sort of moisture outside whatsoever is instantly frozen solid.

When down around -35F or colder, you can literally spit outside and it skips across the ground because it froze in the air before it got there.

Just spent four days shooting dogs in Mt. leaving today, high of 107 expected. We could only stand to shoot in the mornings. Not bad shooting, but plague is getting bad in the area. We won’t be able to shoot the same area next year. More scouting needed.

What part of Montana were you hunting, Alguapo?
I have hunted the Havre area and it is not as hot as say Billings. The last time I hunted the Havre area was 2 years ago and the big towns had been wiped out by the plague.

I am over on the hilly side in Butte. We have a ton of 'em this year.

My crew is heading to Montana on friday......I don't need to be home for two weeks so I'll get my shooting in.....I sure hope it cools off a little bit at least.....I'll trade the oppressive Tennessee humidity for the dry Montana heat in a second anyway!!...lol Here's the tip of the ammo pile.....My main calibers are 6XC, 6mmAR, 223 AI and 204 Ruger....
