Montana X-treme Copper Killer Special BMG Formula

On the advice of the folks at Sinclar I ordered a bottle. Man this stuff is seriously strong. I opened the bottle and wafted my hand across the top about 12" from my nose, it almost knocked me out. It was like Sweets X 20. I'm not sure I can even use it without a respirator. I bet it would melt a bronze brush in short order.
Has anyone had the nerve to try it?

Danny Huffman found this stuff and started marketing it. He has sold the rights to Western Powders. It is amonia oil not aquous amonia. Most other copper removers are corrosive. Montana Extreme is safe on ferous metals and non ferous metals except copper and its alloys. I know folks who plug their barrels and fill them with the stuff when they are in storage.

I've been using it for over a year. It seems to work ever faster than Sweets. The 16oz size has been on sale at Midway for $24.99 this month!

It's an awsome copper solvent..I have used it when bronze brushing an it does take a toll on the brush, but no worse than Sweet's. BTW, $24.99 is highway robbery for this stuff.

Thanks for the heads-up on Powder Valley. I've purchased Lapua components from them in the past with great satisfaction, but it's nice to know that they now carry Montana X-Treme!

You're right, Midways "sale" price is highway robbery!

I have used 762 for years, but just got a bottle of Montana extreme, and it is much more powerful. But I clean my brushes in a small bottle of Liquor thinner, right after use. I use a Starbucks glass bottle with its screw on cap, and with the brush still on the rod, I just dip it in and swish it around a bit, when you remove it, the LT will evaporate in just seconds, and it stops all brass corrosion.
I have also used it on a patch to insure that all of the copper killer, solvent and oil is gone from the bore, and then use a patch with a little good old Hoppies # 9.
I have found a lot of uses on the bench for Lacquer thinner, just be careful with it.
It will really clean off brass cases as well as dies, it just removes all lube as well, so you may wont to add a little lube after the L.T.
Mike.
A little goes a ling way, and whe it starts to look a little dirty, just let it sit a day ot two, and the dirt will settel to the bottom, A pint will last a long time.

I've been using acetone for neutralizing bronze brushes and jags the same way that you're using lacquer thinner. Both work great.

But instead of using either of these solvents to neutralize the bore I've been using Ronson lighter fluid. It's just plain naptha, and seems to do a great job of neutralizing those volatile solvents, traces of which may remain in the bore even after dry patching. Then I follow up with a very small amount of Montana X-Treme Bore Conditioner, which from what I've been able to determine, is a very pure and light oil containing no additives that will leave any residue.

Just proves that there are many ways to 'skin a cat' :)

OK, and another method. I clean bronze brushes with brake cleaner, gets the copper removers off, but they still wear out a brush faster than normal. For getting the BMG out of the bore, I use Kroil after dry patching. I the run another dry patch to get the Kroil out. I then put a couple drops of Lock-Ease on a patch and run that through the bore. After the Lock-Ease has dried, you have a layer of graphite in there to fire your first shot through. I have found nothing that will let you shoot the first shots into the group like Lock-Ease.

There is only one way to see what copper remover work best. See how long it takes your favorite copper remover to remove copper from a penny . It will show you what really works. Art
