Montana F-class matches

Howdy. New member. Looking for f-class matches in the treasure state. I shot XC for a number of years and quit for a while. I’d like to get back into comp. thanks for any info

We have a F-class shoot June 6th in Billings, it’s a one day 600yrd 3x20 match, pm me if you'd like more info.

Check the Montana Rifle and Pistol Association website, they list all scheduled matches (that they know of). F-class and XTC; the state service rifle champs are coming up next month, and there's XTC and prone matches in a couple of weeks in Butte.

This is an email I got for the F class matches at Deep Creek. I hope to attend the Septemeber match if my action and stock arrive in time. Glad to see matches resume. America was not build on fear.

  • All,
Just an update on the remaining matches in Missoula for 2020. Our Governor loosened some of the restrictions for activities including allowing people that are traveling to Montana will NOT need to self quarantine for 2 weeks. This lifting of restrictions will take place very soon and in plenty of time for our June Service Rifle match.

Now, things will not just go back to the previous normal - yet. We will NOT host a catered BBQ dinner for the June tournament (People can still gather on their own after the matches and I encourage them to utilize caution). Hopefully, we will have the dinners back for the Northern Rockies Regionals in September. We will exercise social distancing and maintain proper etiquette associated with social distancing during the tournament. I also expect anyone with concern either about their own vulnerability or the possibility they could be ill, and spread the virus to others, to refrain from attending. We are going forward with the tournament at this point, but things are subject to change should the Governor's office return to previous restrictions. We will update shooters as soon as possible should things worsen again. However, I am optimistic we will all be shooting at the end of June in Missoula.

So, enough of the dry firing - lets burn some powder!

Here is the info about the remaining Missoula Tournaments, and match programs are attached. Also, please get your registration and payment in soon so we do not have to deal with that at the matches!

    Field Precision Rifle*
Several shooters got together over this off season and helped develop an alternate course of fire for FPR shooters. We were pretty excited to run this alternate course over the Ironman Tournament, but the tournament had to be canceled in May. We are going to go forward with this course of fire that will run concurrent with the June Service Rifle Tournament and we will also have another course of fire for FPR shooters in the September Northern Rockies Regionals. If you are interested in shooting this alternate course of fire, contact me by email and I will fill you in. I am keeping the numbers limited as we stand up this course of fire. (If you want more info about this FPR Division - see below for info I sent out earlier this year.)

    * "Whats a Field Precision Rifle?" Mentioned up above is that some tournaments will include a separate course of fire for Field Precision Rifles. Field Precision Rifles include hunting rifles, military M24, M110, M2010 rifles along with PRS/NRL style rifles. Suppressors are encouraged, muzzle brakes discouraged, and rifles must utilize folding bipods. The idea is that this would be an actual rifle that you would CARRY with you in the field! This division is a further evolution of this unofficial rifle division we began a year ago. We had a number of shooters in this division last year and received good input on the new course of fire for them.

New this year for the Field Rifles are different positions at various yard lines using diverse equipment to challenge shooters in scenarios which might be encountered in competition, tactical environments, or when hunting. You will be firing at electronic targets from 200yds out to 1000yds, and receive nearly instant and exact feedback on your shot placement. This will afford you an excellent opportunity to see the effects of wind drift and your POI offset with differing positions and equipment use. Our goal, as with traditional high power events, is to help shooters improve their marksmanship fundamentals to better prepare them for their chosen activity. This course of fire will be fired along side the other matches that are going on at the same time. The course of fire may be further modified to challenge field match shooters and hunters alike.

I sent my registration in before the wuhan virus went wild. It'll be difficult for me to get there this year because of my job evaporating but I am still looking forward to it. Jamey and crew do a great job.
