montana extreme 50 bmg? Blue reaction?

I decided after alot of rounds this week I would clean the bore with some montana extreme 50bmg. I usually just use wipeout but I was thinking there could be a lot of cooper. I thought at first I had tonnes of cooper and wipeout hadnt been doing the job as the blue just kept coming but I think it just must have been a reaction from the brass jag and brush, I was using a nylon brush but its still brass cored so probably gave a reaction too, all I know as soon as I put the 50bmg on the brush the core in the brush turned black straight away, after heavy brushing the first patch would be pure blue but if you put maybe 3 dry patches after brushing the blue would be gone, does this sound like a recation? I know this stuff is very strong as the smell would knock you out, so am thinking its just stripping the brass jag and brush core real fast, my bore was probably clean long before I stopped cleaning but i kept going because I was getting blue readings. Also does anyone get brass reaction from wipeout, I done the bore with wipeout after and got a few flashes of blue on 2 patches, just slight) and I dont think that the 50bmg would leave much for wipeout. Any input or help much appreciated

Craig,
When I use 50BMG I apply and remove it with a Patch-Worm, no metal to react with the chemical. I only use 50BMG when I am outside at the range, never inside.

I use 50BMG and have also experienced a false blue reading on my patches that was traced to a reaction with the copper content of my brass jags. In my case I only got this reaction with the first, and sometimes second) use of a particular jag with 50BMG. After the jag became discolored by the 50BMG it seemed to have stopped giving me the false blue readings on the patches. I always neutralize my jags and brushes with acetone. I use Dewey Parker-Hale style wrap jags. YMMV.

I can't comment on 50BMG's reaction with brushes, since I never use a brush, bronze or nylon) with 50BMG. My normal cleaning routine is to first coat the bore with Montana Xtreme bore cleaner, then use a brush to get the powder fouling and carbon out followed by clean patches before I introduce the 50BMG into the bore using only patches to remove the copper. This method seems to work well for me and gives me the benefit of not having to contend with false blue readings.

I also use Wipe-Out and its accelerator on some of my barrels. I've found that it will give you the same false blue readings when used with "unseasoned" brass jags.

Get yourself a chamber plug and some TM bore cleaner from Sinclair International. Chamber the plug and fill the bore with TM. It's not a problem using this stuff inside as it has no odor. Let is soak overnight. When you pour it in the TM is clear when you pour it out it will be a lovely shade of blue. Run a patch down the bore and the only color you'll see is a little black from remaining powder fouling. No scrubbing, no noxious fumes, no copper. I'll never scrub again. BTW had my gunsmith bore score the tube, he could find no sign of copper, just brite shiny steel. Call the guys a Sinclair and ask them about it. I have some 50 BMG, but it's just to nasty to use.

Thought i`d slip in with a question. Is 50 bmg safe to store in plastic bottles for extended periods of time? Am refering to 2-4oz. bottles sold by sinclair. just got 2 bottles of bmg today and have never used it before...thanks

I put mine in a Sinclair bottle about a month ago. The smell will still knock you into next week. The first time I used it,with plenty of ventilation I thought) I wound up with a migraine headache. Now I use a respirator and wear latex gloves. Methel ethyol bad s>>t!
