Monkeys and ground squirrels

The monkeys in Thailand were pure evil. There are lots of pics of unsuspecting tourist getting 50 +
stitches after messing with them . Every now and then a Buddhist monk would suddenly appear
and wollup one with a homemade sling shot and then vanish .
The best monk was holding a kitten whilst handing out welts . The truth is stranger than fiction .

Anyone here with time in SE Asia recall the Howler Monkeys? Those nasty critters would really raise the volume, howl all night, and even throw rocks down from their trees onto guys in the bush. Bad enough having to deal with the VC and NVA at night, let alone the local wildlife.

Monkeys are usually mean, nasty little animals, and we're not even talking baboons.....that's another story and an even meaner critter.

Late Edit: Back in the late 90's there was a shooter on the Go-Go-Varmint-Go forum that went by "Monkeyman". He was a contract monkey shooter in Barbados and posted some great monkey engagements for years there. Anyone know what ever became him, as that forum is pretty much defunct now and I've never seen him post anywhere since.

Man, I love the title of this thread! Can’t wait to watch the vid…I’ve seen of other vids of that guy and they are always good.

Looks like a place for a few rifles and barrel coolers. I'd much rather shoot monkeys and squirrels than big game.

I wonder how many will die it before they get smart and disappear at any hint of human presence? For instance, coons have been hiding there eyes at night when light hits them forever.

Wow. Ours out this way are not that smart. We can't use IR but we can still red-light for them.

I have often wondered if the biologists ever got those concepts correct about what their eyes can see by the study of the types of rods and cones they find in their eyes.

As for monkeys, maybe one of these days. I imagine having that kind of ammo and rig would be tough to arrange on a trip that likely starts with big game. Hauling guns and ammo to those places is work and it is hard to imagine the arrangements to have both your big game stuff and also stuff for these varmints with the permits and all. I'll have to ask folks over there and see what they think.

Its not that much extra work, allot of hunters will bring over 2 or 3 rifles anyway just for a week of hunting.
Depending where you plan to hunt the outfitter should know where to get some Moneys and or "ground squirrels" or Dassies as they are called over here, obviously certain areas will be better suited for certain species

I looked last night out of curiosity and there are quite a few guides offering monkey hunting in conjunction with other game. I’m sure they would provide a weeks worth. Baboons were more expensive.

I had a friend who went over there to visit a friend who knew a lot of land owners. They hunted plains game and camped out the whole trip. He carried a bunch of nice gifts to give the land owners - hand made knives and such. The land owners let them hunt and it was all free other than licenses. In fact he did shoot a baboon because they would dissasemble the wind mills that watered the ranchers cattle.

That’s all I would care to do myself - shoot monkeys, shoot ground squirrels, eat good food, and sight see.

One recommended 223, but i believe I would prefer a 6mm.
