Mollie Coating

I did, but I gave it up many years ago, as it seemed like the barrel cleanup, while done less frequently was more difficult to get the moly out. Also, with good barrels like Krieger or Bartlien, I experienced less copper fouling, so naked bullets were less of a hassle.
I also had no evidence it was helping my accuracy.

How I did it:

Bought a separate bowl and lid for my vibrating tumbler, added about a pint of BB's and a 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of moly. Threw in a bunch of bullets, and tumbled them for an hour or so.

Poured them out onto a towel and rubbed it around to remove all loose moly. Loaded and shot them. Threw BBs and excess moly back into the bowl for storage.

I have read the ins and outs of Mollie Coating. Are any you coating you bullets?

I shot Danzac coated bullets for a couple of years and in my experience they certainly didn't improve my accuracy to any degree but at the same time they didn't reduce my accuracy at all. I did have to adjust my powder charge up slightly to get the same velocities I was getting with naked bullets but the loads remained consistent. Since my discipline is 1000yd. BR and shot strings can be 10 record rounds plus between 5 to 8 sighters for me, I did find that my barrel fouled less and I could easily get 60 firings without any decline in accuracy. So depending on your discipline it may be something to consider. There may be a lot of folks that will say stay away from it but I saw no disadvantage other than some extra time spent on coating the bullets but if your not shooting long strings that heat up and foul your barrel, you might stick with naked pills. Just the experience was worth the effort if for no other reasons than to answer questions I had with my own actual experience.

I have had great luck/results moly plating bullets using the dry method. I just got sick of doing it and reverted back to (for the time being) shooting naked bullets. If I could buy Berger’s already plated I would still be shooting them. Should also mention there is absolutely no need to get “all” the moly out of your barrel when cleaning. That’s an absolute myth.

I thought the moly subject was done.

Now I’m heading to the guitar store to play Stairway to Heaven.

I shoot moly, but for a different reason. I clean my brass in an ultra sonic cleaner. Doing this removes ALL the carbon so my necks are squeaky clean. I use moly on the bullets to get my seating pressure the same from one round to the next. Using moly bullets in conjunction with colloidal grafite my first few shots from a clean bore are much closer to being on call, and the velocity is much closer to the numbers I get from a fouled bore. The longer strings of fire between cleanings is just a side benefit for me.
i hope this helps,

Lloyd

I use the dry method, only coat my prone rifle bullets.
It helps me get more uniform neck tension and better verticals at long range.

When I bought my 6 PPC, I also obtained about 1,800 65 gr Allie Huber mollie coated bullets with the rifle. I am almost out of them and now have 2,000 Barts in 68 gr. I have used the Barts and they are working great.

Scoping the barrel, I have found that the mollies leave little or no brass in the barrel and it is easier to clean. With Barts, which are not coated, it requires more effort to clean. that is however true with all untreated bullets. I've watched the process on Youtube and am going to treat 100 Barts and compare them.

Try the wet method less messy and works great for me

Sounds like a plan. Let us know what you find. I'm still shooting Danzac coated bullets out of my 6.5X47 Lapua hunting rifle. First cold bore shot is aalways right there.

I coat all my bullets with HBN. All it does is that it's less of an effort to clean the barrel. I've never noticed the velocity loss that suppose to be associated with it. I've bought bullets from some fellow competitors that have been coated Tungsten Disulfide and it acts the same as HBN but it is to me a little bit more messy because you can actually see it on your fingers when you handle them vs the HBN which you can barely see but you can feel it on your fingers. It feels like corn silk. Honestly I don't have any copper fouling since I started to use the HBN. The only time it will start to copper foul is when the barrel starts to go south on me. Barrels are expendable and relatively cheap.
