Modular safes

I’m running out of space in my current safe. I really don’t want to try to get another one in the house.
Would like to know what experience people have had with modular safes?

Never heard of it. What's a modular gun safe?

I have the Secure It cabinet and it’s excellent. Man portable and well made. You’ll need to consider how to keep it from tipping forward when empty because the door is heavy enough to tip forward. I find that when it’s full though and you have weight on too, it’s a non- issue.

I’d buy three more of these before going the regular safe option.

ZANOTTI ARMOR MADE IN USA

In 2000 I was in Waterloo on a couple customer calls. I had a few spare minutes so I stopped at Zanotti and the boys gave me a tour of the place from raw steel to the shipping door. I ordered one and at that time it was a 26 week lead time, they crank out a lot of safes. Been real happy with mine. B-I-L got one in the mid 80s when their place was by the old packing house, he has been happy with his also.

I have a Dakota Interlock. Went together pretty easily; seems pretty secure to me, though I admittedly have little experience with other safes.

This particular safe is not very big (I've got 6 rifles and about 10 handguns, and it would take some serious efficiency planning to fit much more); for greater storage, you'll probably want to go with the large Hornady modular safe.

One of the main points I look for in a safe is the fire rating.
ALL mfrs will truthfully state that no safe is fire proof.
A house fire is said to be 2000°+F.
I did a Vault Pro w 1700° for 30 or more minutes- don't remember - thinking abt response time and hoping they could get it nubbed down before it toasted everything to a crisp. 1200° ain't nuttin but an ineffectual feel good...imo.

A very interesting vid.
1) What temp was reached...?...never heard them vocalize what the gun said.
2) How long was it allowed to cook? Again,
never heard or saw a clock on the screen.

Very important parts of the heat resistant, fire "proof" equation.

In my research, I found that 30 minute safes don’t really have any protection. 1700 degrees is nice, but it’s still a 30 min safe. I agree that 1200 degree ratings are worthless.
You can usually tell if a safe really has decent fire and theft protection by how much it weighs. I’d never trust any 30 minute fire rated safe with my firearms and other valuables.

my safe is rated for 2 hours at 1875 degrees and weighs over 1250 lbs empty

In wildland fires, the house burns to the ground. Very hot for a long time with no suppression. That is the test we need to see. I know a family that had their house burn to the ground and he lost all his guns he had in two safes.

I purposely understated the fire rating on mine pending google...1660/90 mins.
Stepped door and the Paluseal (sp?) Didn't want to sell Vault Pro short. :D

I do see potential in a safe being modular. I'm thinking hollow walls, as shiiped..to be filled with concrete before to top is put on.
