Modifying Model 70 SA magazine box

Hi guys, would like some input on what I’m getting myself into here. I have two push feed short action Model 70s, 308/22-250. Frustrated with the OAL of the magazine boxes. Thinking about removing the spacer in the box. Ran across this thread:

Seems relatively straight forward. I’m concerned about the spring and follower flopping around in there and how the rifles will cycle, not to mention ejection. Both are hunting rigs. It seems I always run into a hitch on these kind of projects. Anybody messed around with this sort of thing?

Push feed should simplify things, since you don't have a blade ejector potentially messing with the rounds on the left side of the magazine. I had no issues with the follower or spring on either rifle. I don't know what kind of mag box or potential issues you might run into with the 22-250. Both of mine were 7mm-08.

Contact Jim Wisner. I just sent a bunch of mag boxes to him. Jim is a Mod70 Guru.

I have removed several spacers from CRF M-70 mag boxes. It's not hard. You will need to shorten the bolt stop on even a push feed, and on a CRF you have to shorten/reshape the ejector as well
