Modern Varmint Hunting Hardware

mensajd

Quod Erat Demonstrandum
It used to be the case that a sub-MOA rifle was something of a rarity. Now it seems routine. Savage M25-T 204R. WOA bull barrel AR upper. 100 and 200 yd targets respectively, And 6 mm Creedmoor RPR. Off-the-shelf shooting stuff has never been better. Unfortunately, due to shelter-in-place orders, I can't go shooting. :-(IMG_2252[1].JPG IMG_2083[1].JPG IMG_2207[1].JPGI had a Winchester Model 70 and had to free float the barrel and epoxy the action to get it to shoot. Now you can just mail order stuff and get MOA accuracy. WOA, Dtech, whatever. Plug and play accuracy.

"Information age" has declined the learning curve, paying your dues aspect of loading. It used to be...... you couldn't wait for the next issue of precision shooting or handloader mag to come out or,take every opportunity to STF up and listen when a "old guy" spoke.

Nows, you plunk your $$ down and before you're out if the blooming parking lot you've got a dozen loads to try,and umpteen thousand "fixes" for why it don't,looking at a cell phone. Same thing happened in automotive circles. "Tuning" used to come with hard, positive work ethics and diligence...... now, grab a laptop.

"It's not the thing,it's what you do with it"..... be it go fast cars OR shootin arns. Somewhat irrespective of "how" you got that rig to shoot bugholes..... what are you going to do with it? Go find a game animal or beer can to ventilate,or go find some friendly competition. Good luck with your project.

For sure there are better pieces of equipment available easily today.

That doesn’t mean there are better shooters or drivers though. I have seen some dime store cowboys with $100 rigs that couldn’t shoot a hole in a bucket. They talk a big story too.

My accuracy load for 223: 23.7gr LT-32 behind Berger 52gr match bullets with Lapua brass and CCI BR-4 primers. Hard to go wrong with these components. Max load so usual caveats.

Trouble is, all their .20 caliber uppers offered are out of stock/backordered. Hell of a way to run a "bidness". I'll pass.
They're in Illinois. Hard to run a firearms business in Illinois. And I'm sure there are other vendors (precision firearms, LaRue, etc) more than happy to take your money.

I am a 223 guy, with all the serious AR uppers coming from WOA, then I got a WOA 204 Varmint Upper as a gift for my guide.

He doesn't load so I did the 204 load development for him. Boy did I find out what I had been missing....

They are worth the wait....

We were lucky here in San Antonio. The Range NEVER closed. Others weren't so lucky. Tommy Mc
