Modern rifle scopes.......

I began rifle hunting with a smith and wesson 243, the ones made by weatherby back in the mid 80's ? this tack driver would shoot 1" group at 300 yds on a rest with custom handloads.......i put a 2x7 leupold on it and zero'd it at 300yds....bagged 5 point muleys that would feild dress 210lbs, while i worked, lived on ranch, sagebrush/farmland, i now live in the mountains, my question is this, if i buy a $1000 scope for my 6.5cm, can i zero it at 50yds, use it in the pine trees, then go back to flat land and dial it up to 750 yds for one of those muleys ?

I don’t see why not but it just takes a little longer with these modern scopes to adjust parallax and get the target in view

Most likely yes. I wouldn’t zero at 50 yds unless you’re planning to shoot his eye out at 50 yds. 100 is fine. Lots of 4-16 or 5-20 scopes out there that would do what you want around that price range. Use your ballistic calculator to see what elevation you will have to dial, multiply by 2, and that’s your minimum elevation adjustment needed with no elevation in your rail or rings, and nothing dialed for windage. If you don’t run a ballistic calculator give us your elevation, muzzle velo, bullet, and barrel twist rate and we’ll see what we can do.

Here my 6.5 zeroed at 200. Only .12 high at 50 and dial up 15 for 750
