Model 700 trigger guard screws

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I am looking for an economical way to get a few sets of rem type socket oval heads like on the newer rifles. It just makes me sad that certain companys are charging 7.00 per screw. Even discounted it is still over 5.00 per screw. It just frustrates me. If you know a supplier that is more reasonable let me know. I have tried all the usual suspects but they are all ridiculous.

The problem is nobody seems to have the smaller diameter oval heads that fit correctly. I will check Fastenal and Hillman to double check.

The problem is they are firearm specific. Not what you wanted to hear. I have looked at all the bolt / screw makers. No luck.Sad but true. Tommy Mc

Tommy I do believe you are absolutely correct. I will use button heads countersunk in my pillars I am going to make. They look to be custom spec screws which is why they cost so much.

I get mine from albany fasteners. They are threaded 100% and i bought them long. I turn the dia down on the head and cut to length. It takes a bit of work but when im done they look better and i can buy big bags of them for the same as i used to buy bat screws for.

The Local Hardware Store Screws can be made to work with a little work as Dusty pointed out .

Now I no longer have a lathe ?
I do have a few grinders and files .
I have a few Drill Motors .
Let your eyes guide you to the screw of your dreams.

I started making my screws because the ones you buy are soft and the socket head strip to easy .
With a bottle od 44/40 Bluing you can finish them off ? Or SS and polish .

Master Class Stocks does a fine job with a Lathe.

Watch Remington's website for sales. Several times a year they have 35% off sales (usually around the different holidays) and that's when I try to stock up on stuff I'll be needing for upcoming projects. Screws are usually 2.99 during that sale. I ordered screws from them last week as they had a 20% shot show sale and I couldn't wait for the next 35% sale. I usually try to stay 1 ADL trigger guard ahead also because polished blue or stainless are 24.99 at sale time. Shipping is a little pricey at 9 bucks but its still cheaper than driving around looking for will fit stuff that never fits right. Sometimes their bolt disassembly tool is 12.99 on sale.

I get a wide range of fasteners including special gun fasteners from my local True Value Hardware. They have a special fastener room. I have found this at all the True Value Hardware store that I have been in here on the West Coast. I would think it may be common.
