Mod 70 300 Win mag

I have been getting good results with 200 grain Speer Spitzers with a healthy shot of IMR 7828, I am loading two grains off max with Federal mag primers. I bought the rifle because the owner said he couldn't get it to shoot, I free floated the barrel, problem solved.
The action screws were on so tight that I to get an oversized screwdriver to remove the action screws. I blue loctited the screws after properly torquing them down.
Now that I know it shoots, I am going to epoxy bed it and drop the trigger weight a bit.
This Mod 70 is going to be my moose gun this fall, perhaps a bear tag will have to get filled as well.
The only thing that would have made it better is if it was a 30-06.

Great cartridge for all around hunting. Been hunting with my Model 70 Laredo LRH in this chambering ever since Winchester came out with it. It's my go to rifle every season opener. I never loaded bullet heavier than 180 grainer.

great cartridge, i stayed with 165s and 180s and never had a problem with deer, elk, moose, bear, griz, caribou, the 180 nos part does a great job on heavier game and the Sierra Sbt on the lighter

i loaded the 180 sierras down for deer to perserve meat, 180s about 2800 and 165 about 2900 for lighter game mulie etc. then the same weight with heavier construcion bullets 180' at 3050 with 4831

i used 4350 and the lighter loads and 4831 on the heavier, both shot well under 3/4 inch

you will love it.

7X57, if you want to get into the 200gr. bullet weights and want them to S-C-R-E-A-M out of your barrel, use Retumbo. I have a friend who is using I believe, the Berger 210's? With the Berger's he is getting a tad over 3000f.p.s. with a 27" barrel.. He uses it for long-range Elk. He is getting accuracy you might not believe, 1/2 to 3/4" at 200 yards. Out of a hunting rifle, that is going some distance. Something to consider anyway..

For a practice load try the 130 gr NBT with a reduced load of 43gr. H4895. In my rifle it is a 2600fps load with 0.5" accuracy.
One of the great .30 calibers.
