MOA for 6.5 x 47 from 600 to 800 to 1,000 yards

I have the opportunity to shoot a Palma course in a week but I don't have zeros for 800, 900 or 1,000 yards. I have a very good 600 yard zero. I am shooting a 123 grain Sierra at 2925 fps with a 30 in barrel rifle.

Does anyone have zeros for these yardage that I can use in moa or distance at 100 yards?

Thanks! Mark

+ 10 moa should get you to 800 yrds from 600 yrd zero + 6 more to 900 + 6 more to 1000yrds. they won't be spot on but you should be on paper, maybe even in the black.

I'm looking at my NF Exbal calculator which has been very close for me and I am shooting a 6.5X47L with same bullet and only 6fps faster. At a 600 yard zero you need ~7 MOA to get you to 800, and another ~8.75 MOA to get you out to 1000 yards, I have not shot my rifle over 600 yards yet but these should get you on paper.

This sounds more like it.

You will have unlimited sighters at 800, so make sure you get a solid zero before you go for score. You will only get two sighters at 900 and 1000, so use the wisely!

When you go from 800 to 900, come up 4.5 MOA and adjust elevation if needed on your first sighter, and the fine tune with your second sighter. If you were high at 900 then your come up will be less than 4.5 MOA at 1000, but if you were low then it will be more.

Have fun and let us know how it went!

one more thing, at these ranges, the altitude and expected temp will have an effect, what do you expect.

Example at 4000 ft, 70 dgree, 35%humidity expect

800 +7.9
900 +4.7 more
1000 + 5.3 more

Hey all! I'm back to report my results:

With a 6.5mm x 47 Lapua, with a 123 gr Sierra, with H4350 40.5 gr running at 2925 ft per second:

from 0-600 yards: 13 1/2 minutes for zero

from 0-800 yards: 22 1/2 minutes for zero

from 0-900 yards: 25 1/4 minutes for zero

from 0-1,000 yards: 31 1/4 minutes fro zero

I had a great had a time. It was definately a learning experience. The wind was very bad, I was told by someone that it was the worse they had seen since 1975 at the range. At the 800 yard I shot a 149 with 5X's out of 150. At the 900 yard I shot a 133 with a miss (that darn wind!) with 3X's. At the 1,000 yard I shot 143 with 5X's (still fighting that wind). This was all with iron sights. I was using Sentra iron sights with a 32" sight radius.

On day two there was a any rifle/any sight match. I used my nightforce scope. At 1,000 yards with a 600 yard zero I needed 16 1/4 minutes. I did much better that day. The wind was not nearly as bad. I shot a 195 with 9X's. I missed a couple of wind calls and leaked out some 9's.

It seemed like the gun was shooting better at 1,000 yards than it does at 600 yards. It seems easier to get an X as my X count is higher. Is the 123 gr bullet a better bullet at 1,000 yards?

I had a good time, all the people were nice. Several people were interested in my gun. I work in a machine shop and do a lot of the work by myself. Here's a couple of pictures of me and my gun.

Thank you all for the input and "see you at the range"!
Mark
