mitutoyo quantu micrometer

I am comparing a mitutoyo quantu micrometer against their 293 bog standard series. The only real difference I can see is that the quantu mics have an increased spindle feed per revolution (2mm per 360 degree rotation vs. the 0.5mm per 360 degree rotation).

What i would like to know is, has anyone experienced these and are the quantu mics worth the extra cost?

Thanks.

There is a big difference between the two to those of us who run labs and shops, and you won't care about the spindle pitch on days when you are trying to measure less than 0.05mm.

One is rated at +/- 0.001mm and the other at +/- 0.002mm and is metric only.

If that is enough difference that you care, then go with the better one. I had a great number of these in my labs and they held their calibration very well unless abused.

Mitutoyo is one of the best, so you won't regret paying a little more for the better one and if taking good care of it, you will pass it on some day.

ETA: I found a simple guide to understanding measurement uncertainty from your UK national labs. It does contain some math, but it isn't high level math and is aimed at general audiences. The concepts are often confused on this forum when it comes to weights and length measurements, so it is worth a read to anyone spending money on things like scales or micrometers. I was on committees that set standards and calibration policy before I retired, PM if you have follow up questions.
