Being a cynic I rally wonder how many of us can use a sliding caliper to the proposed accuracy level of 0.0005". Especially in a noncontrolled environment like" most" shops. What do we think.?

working in and being around machine shops for over 25yrs i have yet to see vernier calipers in person except one pair a carpenter tried to give me one time. I think they were general brand and rusted chrome.

I have a set that my grandfather owned. They're in fine shape, but my eyes would fall out of my head if I had to read them frequently.

To be fair, the fourth decimal on the digitals is not a tenth. It's half a thou. A little overboard, but my calipers are accurate to better than +/- .001 on every time of known size I have ever measured. I don't think that half is superfluous. It's not very useful, but it's not ridiculous either.

I was about to order Mitutoyo digital calipers but after doing some research here on which model to buy I seen Brown and Sharpe recommended a lot.

Would you buy Mitutoyo or Brown & Sharpe digital calipers for general reloading? I don't need coolant proof

Use MSC, Granger, McMaster Carr (my favorite), or another reputable source.

I'm lucky enough to have a huge Grainger distribution facility with a walk-in sales counter less than 5 miles from my home. So while I pay state sales tax (**) on online orders, I have items shipped "will call" for free, and go pick it up. That also gives me hands on inspection, and if something seems amiss, I hand it back and they refund me 100% then and there.

I bought the 500-196-30 and they cost $198 vs $141 from Amazon but because of recommendation here I chose not to order from Amazon
