Missed our anniversary...

...but had a good reason. Until last Thursday I'd never had surgery but a fall early June while working at our cabin changed that. Ended up needing rotator cuff surgery but had to play the Medicare checkers game before they would approve an MRI and surgery.

A lot of wasted time and unnecessary pain but finally repaired 11/13. Pretty dopey rest of the day, and even a little next morning. More or less confined to my recliner, I dozed off and on.

Friday morning felt a little better, almost normal except for the obvious, when my wife walked up and said 'Happy Anniversary'. She smiled when I gave her a confused look, then said "You've had lot on your plate lately and knew you would forget."

I chose a wonderful woman to be my life partner. I won't forget our 48th!!!!

That’s a good woman.
If I ever have a reason to forget ours, I hope Marilyn is as understanding.

Just keep up with your PT. Been 14 years since I did my left arm in a fall off a ladder. No more position shooting, but at least the surgery saved the arm. Even today my recliner, at times, is my friend and the wife of 60 years next year has always been by my side. You are fortunate my friend.

ROFLMAO so did we! Wife knew I'd never forget. We just happened to meet on my birthday so it was kind of appropriate to get married on that day a couple years later. Then turned out it was my grandparents anniversary as well.

Oh man...........got the same surgery schedule for Dec 23. Any tips?
1st change the date if possible-you will not be very cheerful when done, that is Holiday time will Dr be around or on vacation.
2 get a good comfortable recliner- it will be your bed for the next 6-7 weeks.
3 do the therapy but don't overdo it
4 PRAY that it all works out.

I know I sound harsh, but I had mine done on Sept. 24 of 24 and 10 weeks later for no reason it (rotator tendon) broke and curled up. On March 4th they replaced my shoulder with a reverse shoulder and here we are Nov. 19 and I am still going to therapy, and I can tell you it still hurts. Not the outrageous pain from the initial injury but a constant ache-24/7. They tell me it will go away, but it takes time.
IT SUCKS TO GET OLD.

PS I lost 14 months of shooting because of this damn shoulder and believe me shooting is not muscle memory.

I've had both hips replaced and the total reverse shoulder replacement last year this month. Good advice so far, but one tip I'll add that really helped my shoulder recovery was a product called the Polar Wave ice cooling device that really helped me and a friend here.

It is not covered by our beloved Medicare, cost about 250, and worth every penny. It comes with a shoulder wrap that circulates ice water over the surgical area, feels great, reduces pain, and helps the healing process big time. The product has accessories for knee, shoulder, and foot wraps, so about every ortho invasive surgery we suffer is addressed.

The hospital my surgery was done at keeps this thing in stock, yours may too. Also available online. You will not regret it if purchased.

My wife of 43 years slept on the couch while I was in the recliner and woke up twice nightly to stoke fresh ice into the machine. We are blessed to have such gals with us for so long and take such good care of us.

Do everything your surgeon tells you to do pre & post surgery.

Do all the PT as directed even if it hurts like hell and it will. Start mine 11/26 and not looking forward to it, hurt like hell for 6 weeks to just get approved for MRI!

Bought a made in USA cold therapy machine off Amazon and when leaving post op they handed me a brand new one. Now I know what to do with it check your DMs. :)

You have a good one. Best to hang on to her for a while.

Good luck on your recovery.
