Mirage Shield Placement

Had an idea that came up and was wondering what others thought. Most folks mirage shield doesn't fit their barrel perfectly length wise. In most cases when I look at how they have them mounted it's towards the end of the barrel. In most cases this leaves the area in front of the action exposed. This tends to be the hotest part of the barrel and right under the bell of the scope. Wouldn't it be better to cover the just in front of the action and leave a couple of inches exposed at the end of the barrel?

I guess my question is if the shield isn't long enough do you cover the end of the barrel or cover the area next to the action and leave a couple of inches exposed at the end of the barrel. It's my believe you should cover the area after the action since its the hottest. When at the range I tend to notice folks predominantly leave the area in front of the action exposed and cover to the end of the barrel.

If you're trying to reduce mirage then you need to reduce hearing the air in the path of the optics line of sight.

If you believe the scope is changing due to the chamber of the barrel coupling heating into the optics ......
