Mirage bands

I've been shooting sling/prone for years and never have seen or used anything but a black elastic mirage band. Now, more and more I'm seeing shooters using venetian blinds with the curved portion up. Is there an advantage with one over the other? And if so, why? :-\
Thanks,
Lloyd

For a wider than 2 inch shield you can purchase vertical blinds for a patio door and cut them to length. What I have been using is xray film (available if your have a friend at the local clinic-they run test film daily before doing any test) it is lite weight and you can cut it to the width you what.
Good luck
Jim

I don't think the color is as important as the width of the shield. If it is not wide enough the heat from the barrel will curl around the edge of the shield and be seen in the scope. The patio vertical blind I got from Home Depot is 3.5 inches wide.

Thank you,
Jim

To specifically answer your question; there is no place to hang the elastic band on today's barell's that incorporate scopes only for sights. When shooting prone with iron sights you always had something on the end of the barell io attach the band.
We attach the "Venetian" band with Velcro to the barell for convince. Having used both over the years I find both work the same regardless of color JMHO

I know someone once said that the reason that black was used was to disperse the heat from the barrel. That is what got me thinking that white would reflect it better, hence this post.
Well I might just try the blind strips w/Velcro. Those elastic bands are only $6.00 but they are a PITA to hook up when switching sight assemblies. For my Palma rifle, I have a small screw in a tapped hole on the scope rail that I just hook it to and leave it alone. My other rifles have seen more contraptions and hook up designs than the law should allow.

Think about it, there is a way to do it on a scoped rifle. And it would be easy to do.
