Minnesota Midrange/F-Class State Championship

So let's hear some numbers! How many shooters? How many F-Class? How many sling shooters? Who won? Any records set?

Please fill in us unfortunate souls who couldn't make it out! I had to settle for 2 1-hour 80-shot otc practice matches on 50-yard reduced targets to hold me over until next wek... :-[

I will post the entire match results when I get them. Cap'n Bob Peasley is the MN Mid-Range Prone Champ with a score of 793-40X. WI resident Brian Mrnak won the match with a 798-44X followed closely behind by Stacey Tamalinus with a 795-48X. Junior Eric Hazelton broke his own national record for a junior 20 shot any sight 600 yard record with a new record of 196-5X. Total of 14 sling shooters.

F-class was won by Pat Scully with a 796-39X in the Open class. F-TR was won by Ed Higgins with a 778-23X. There were 5 shooters with scores of 791 or better so every point counted! I believe we had 50 F-class shooters.

We ran 4 relays to accomodate everyone. The rain before the match kept about 20 or so away as no shows. More info to follow when the stat guy recovers from the long weekend.

As usual the Elk River Club put on a fantastic show for the weekend! Good weather, great food and plenty of fantastic shooters! As Scott mentioned with all the excellent shooters, "every shot" did indeed count! Lots of fun by all. Congrats to all the winners as they put up some serious top-shelf scores! On a side note, with all the shooters and gear lying around up on the line, if someone happens to find an "extra" Edgewood rear bag in their stuff kindly leave it at the ERSC clubhouse. My black & tan bag with a half inch rubber pad glued on the bottom along with my initials, sprouted wings after the third relay. Many thanks to all, EJ in DL

Sounds like you guys had another great turnout there, now we just need to get some more of those shooters to other events in the area. Congrats to Pat Scully, that's some fine shooting.

No stats yet, but all should plan to attend the Northwest Gun Club 9-11 Memorial Match on Sept. 8 and 9. Beautiful range, great people, and Duluth has much for the ladies to do. Elliot Zunich is already planning for a big crowd of F-classers, we need to exceed his expectations. I will start a seperate post on the match.

This was the first real match I've ever shot in, and it was a blast. Lots of great folks to meet and chat with and an opportunity to watch some awesome shooters. Also an opportunity to try to learn in some wicked evil wind. Flags going one way, mirage the other, yuck. Turns out that a hot July day at noon has some different problems than our normal monday evening league! ;-)

A public note of thanks to Scott, Gary, and all the other folks who volunteered to help with the tournament. Most people don't realize how much effort it takes to pull these things off, for little thanks and an occasional PITA bed-wetter.

Eric, bummer about your rest. We'll keep an eye out for it next Monday (had a very light turnout yesterday, as you'd expect).

I'm in for Duluth!

-nosualc .. Also now known as NoSlack!!

I like that Noslack moniker.... Your shooting shows you aint no slacker John!!

Oh ya, big tme thanks to all those who made it happen at the ERSC MN Mid Range this weeknd. under hot, muggy and sometime wet conditions, Scott & Lisa, Gary, Mark, and others I am sure I missed, did a great job.. To all others from the ERSC club & Duluth guys, I met, traded wit with and just shared fun, food and fellowship with, thanks for a great weekend..

Dang, forgot how muggy it can get down there in the trees... Uff da..

And Eric "Cakes" is missing a Black Edgewood Rear bag.. His name/initials are on it, so those who may have this color bag (there must have been 30 of em there), take a look and make sure you got the right one...

nosualc, you shot like a hm and almost won a state match on your first go around. nice job. and remember, the wind is what guides your bullet into the x ring. it is never evil. it was good to meet those jackpine savages from nd. scott and crew did a great job managing the match.

I want to add a "thank you" to Scott, Gary and all the other people involved in making last weekend a fantastic event! As a newbie, it was a real eye-opener to watch the competitors who knew what they were doing and see how they prepared for each relay. The biggest take-away for me was how difficult it can be to maintain the level of concentration needed to shoot good scores near the end of the second day. You can have prefect loads and "dope" for hitting the target, but if you aren't going through the same process for each shot, bad things happen...they did for me.

To TEAM LEFSE; thanks for letting me shoot with you and especially Eric for the fantastic lefse that had to have raised my score by 10 points!

Looking forward to next Monday night for league shooting!! I finally went down to the reloading room and started making up some more rounds last night.

Here are the match results for all 3 disciplines. Interesting to note there were 7 shooters within 5 points of Pat at the end of the day over 80 shots. Pat did a great job reading the wind when it caught a few of us for a couple points. Another noteworthy item is the age spread at the match. George Adamski just celebrated his 80th birthday in May. He is one of the regular league competitors and has his new 6XC shooting really well. Loren Kohnen is a 72 year old new shooter using a borrowed AR-15 rifle who really improved over the course of the day. He says we should watch out when he gets a better rifle!

Most noteworthy is young Tyson Brabec, 11 years old, who has beat me and nearly every other shooter in every match, both mid and long range, this year. He beat me on X's on this match. All of the adult shooters should be very nervous of this young man.
