Minimum Bullet weight 1 in 9 twist

I just bought a Savage .223 Rem with a 1 in 9 twist barrel. Lots of info on the heaviest bullet that this rate will stabilize, but what is the minimum. I can get a supply of 53 g Sierras, but do not know if they will shoot!

Thanks

53 gr. Sierras', #1400) should do fine: works great in all my 1-9 twists. Load up 20 or so and give 'em a try before loading large amounts. All rifles are different, so who can say for certain.

I have a old sav 223 with a 9 twist and it loved 50 grn sierras I have ai d it and it will still shoot 50s but now I shoot 55s too
Good Luck Kevin

AKGunGuy....I have a Savage M12,LRPV,.223 REM,1/9
that works very with Sierra 52's,53's,60's,and 69's. I have shot a .302" 5 shot group @ 200 yds using Sierra's 53gn,27.2gn/Varget. Just go for it and don't worry. gpoldblue

I was reading on nationalmatch.us and some of the guys with 1:6.5 twist are shooting 52gr match bullets. So I would think you should be able to shoot the lightest bullets they make. Now if your rifle will like them that is a different question. Only your rifle will tell you what it likes.
