Mini Mark X project.

Why won't they do the barrel job? That seems off. Its is just like any other barrel job. Metric threads , small receiver pretty much like a howa mini action. Just way classier.

That’s your reason, it involves a gear change for many folks and add that time plus the time to put it back to American threads and it’s not worth the price people are willing to pay for a chamber job.

To you guys that have updated your Mini Mauser. Do you have a good gunsmith that you would recommend to barrel a Mini. I have an action that I purchased 25 years ago new and want to barrel and chamber it for 6-223. I have searched the Phoenix, AZ area and not a a single gunsmith will touch it.
Any referrals would be appreciated.
The only place I've found that agreed to thread a barrel for that action was Douglas Barrels in West Virginia. Only provisons is you buy a barrel from them. By the way you will love this in 6/223 (6x45)!

I liked the mini Mauser, it was one of the very few small actions made with a left bolt.
Always thought one of these would make a nice platform for a 20 Duster.

Al I ended up turning my own threads on mine. One "known" 'smith near me tried to convince me the threads weren't metric. After a few moments I quietly left the premises...... I'm working on a post about my build. Coming soon!

Great write up and thread!

I have a beautiful little Mark X 223 I traded for about 15 years ago. Just don't have the heart to pull the barrel and build something I'd like. I have shot it, shoots great but for now, will just enjoy looking at it.

I needed such an action for a 17 cal barrel I screwed up 10 years ago and finally got my hands on a Zastava M85 223. With help from a member here was able to get a set of metric gears for my old Atlas so the M85 is now wearing the 17 barrel with a Fireball chamber. Shoots fantastic and has killed several coyotes. The role pin issue Al mentioned is part of the gritty feel of my M85 and I had not looked that close at the pin until I read the write up. My pin is not a role pin but floating and .005 too long. I pulled it, stoned it a little and swelled one end a little so it had to be driven in. It's better but still not as smooth as the Mark X.
