Mini M16 Extractor

The few I've done, I've used a 5C square collet block with the bolt handle removed. You can then re-clamp the collet block 90° for the pin operation. I usually replace the stock handle with a PTG anyway so might as well leave it off til everything is done. Lately though, I've just been buying PTG two-piece bolts--pre cut for mini16--and selling the stock bolt on ebay. It's about break-even believe it or not.

The bolt handle gets in the way on a lot of rotaries. I use a V block, but have to figure a way to dodge the handle.
Thank you..now I can see where a jig would be necessary. Not insurmountable...but an issue.

Seems mounted between centers with a lathe dog or bolt in rear would work....assuming you have the front tail stock type mount. Although the issue of marring/swaging the pin hole would be in play....yup that's an issue, now you gotta bush the pin hole.

Maybe a fixture for rotary tail stock to locate on bolt nose OD.....oh wait, with cutout for extractor cut.....wow lots of obstacles.

May have to be a jig..or just order a PTG bolt like @GenePoole ...LOL.

I've not installed one but it seems to be SOP with a rotary table on a manual mill..similar to the pin on an aftermarket bolt stop.

Am I missing something?
No, you just need to figure out how to hold it to avoid the handle. A square v-block would make it a fairly easy job. Put a stop against the bolt nose and go for it! Make the cut and rotate the block 90 deg. , push to stop and drill for cross pin. Done.
