Mini-14 conversion

Here's what I want to buy: A Ruger Mini-14 Ranch rifle with a wood stock and stainless. I've read a lot about the poor accuracy, and then I came across Accuracy System's website. (www.accuracysystems.com) They make a great look, albeit expensive, gun.

1) Does anyone have experience with an Accuracy Systems' Ranch Mini-14?
2) Do they have a good reputation?
3) Does the conversion really give you a sub MOA gun that's competitive with ARs?

You can build a sub MOA AR series rifle for 1/2 the cost of one of their conversions.

Yes, but I really like the look and feel of a Mini-14 ranch rifle. So I'm willing to pay the roughly $1,800 to get what I want. But I does Accuracy Systems have a good reputation? Does anyone else do the same thing with a faster turn around time? Accuracy Systems makes me wait 4-7 months. Actually, I assume the long wait time is a testament to their reputation.

I looked into Accuracy Systems several years ago as I was considering the same project. From what I could tell, they were probably the best of several who offer this service.

Ditto exactly to what Lou says.

In the end I could'nt justify the cost. Traded in that horribly inaccurate mini for savage VLP.

If I was to try and accurize a mini today I'd go to Accuracy Systems.
Be advised. If you go with a big bull barrel that mini feel you like now will change somewhat. They must be a little muzzle heavy. Good luck in your quest and let us know how it turns out.

Here's another question: Accuracy System has a variety of muzzle breaks. Some reduce noise, others reduce recoil. Frankly, noise reduction has an appeal. What's the recoil like on a mini-14? Should I shoot for a reduction in recoil instead?

I put a 1" barrel on my Mini, I have a machine shop. It is a joy to shoot, holds 1/2 to 3/4 MOA, much cleaner and more reliable than my DPMS .308. You won't need any recoil reduction, and despite what you have heard, any muzzle brake will increase the noise level to the shooter and his friends.
