Might be time for a new bbl

6MM CM Currently I have a 8" twist Bartlien Rem Varmint contour . I want to shoot 95gr -115 gr Bergers Why would someone want a 7" twist over a 7.5 Twist ? Also thinking of a Whitley Med palma for additional stiffness . Bench/precision rifle

I have a 7.5 twist on my Dasher and it stabilizes the 115 DTACs just fine at sea level. An 8 twist at 4,000 feet elevation is comparable. Higher twist rates and corresponding increased stabilities are supposed to give you a slightly higher BC, which could help a little on the wind calls.

My 1 foray with 1/7 didn't go well. Actually satisfied with the performance of 107- class bullets and 1/8 twist barrels and haven't looked back.

I shoot a 7.5 twist in a 6 SLR using 110 SMK's. My home range is ,1,100 ft. ASL and every where I've shot has been that high or more. This combo is capable of cleans at 600 if I do my part. Went to a big 2 day match last year, and the 1st day score was OK, but nothing to brag about, but the "X" count was really low. On day two, I pulled out my back up rifle, an 8 twist 6 BRX shooting Roy Hunter 103's. Promptly cleaned the 1st match and dropped a couple in the 2nd. Back at the motel, I'm scratching my head about what happened. Suddenly a light comes on. Dimly, but it did come on! Googled the elevation of the range and it was 575 ASL!
When this bbl. goes south, I'll have a choice to make, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd
