Hey everyone, we have a good prize table taking shape for this one. We are very thankful for the generous donations from our sponsors and will have some nice prizes to give out to the competitors. The 1st place trophies are awesome!!! These are 15" tall glass art that you have to see in person to appreciate. Even the trophy maker was excited about them! This is our 3rd year for this match and it will be our best for prizes and awards. We would be glad to have you come and enjoy a nice match with us StLouis style!!!

Very nice. I like the way you've changed the second and third place plaques to be more unique to the shooting catagories. I'm gunning for 1st but would settle for third this year. Maybe I can forget to pick Pete up in Kingdom City and give us all a better chance.

Mike,
How is f open bench scored ? Is it the same as regular prone f class? Are the weight restrictions the same?
Is it recognized by the NRA? I would be interested in starting a match at my club.
We only shoot 300 yds midrange since we don't have pits. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom-

We shoot F-Open-F-T/R Bench just like you would shoot F-Class on the same target, just off the concrete benches. Weight restriction would be the same as F-Class, however we do not weigh the rifles. This is not an NRA approved match. It is run like an standard high power match. We run three relays where we try to split up the bench and the ground shooters to be on the same relays for safety and space considerations.

The standard matches are 30 total shots for record and 2 sighters per string. We shift pit, shooter, and scorers on a random rotation. We do allow for an unlimited "sight in period" before the match on steel plates as well.

The theory behind having matches that allowed competitors to shoot off the bench was that it would draw more interest especially from a benchrest type club, and give the ability to those who did not want to go prone a chance to shoot F-Class. It has been growing each year. This year we have had 30 plus shooters at each event.

We fortunately have pits at the club and score just like an NRA match, however there are places like yours running F-Class matches that do not have pits. One of them allows for the shooter to shoot at a sighter plate between record shots to gauge wind/etc. The only shots that count for record are those on paper. The target is then scored after the string of fire is over.

I hope this helps you out, let us know if you have any questions!

Pete

Pete is better at explaining things so it was a good thing my service was down!! The club (Big Piney) that is using the plate system just tried it this spring and found it to be a time saver over running back and forth every 5 shots. They let the shooter go to the plate anytime in the string and say it improved the scores and made the match run smoothly. We have a good following in our monthly matches and with separate classes (prone & bench) everything is fair.
We have been doing it this way for at least 8 yrs and I don't see us changing it. We have several with serious injuries and can only shoot at the bench. I was one of them a few years ago!

That guy Pete is a tough customer and we will have to get past him to get the big prize. I am bringing another trouble maker with me as well, my boy! I just put a new barrel on his rifle and it shoots like a drill. We better keep an eye on both of them. It's going to be quite a battle for those trophies.

Dang Mike, This range /match is on my list of must doos. I shot there in my first 600 yd BR match when James Phillips set a few records.. Awesome range and facilities.

The guys I have come in contact from the club have all been very friendly and helpful. I have shot with Bill Mueser, Ryan C. and a few others. But Mike is one cat I want to spend some time with on the line, we could have been the inspiration for the Movie "Twins" with Arnold & Danny DeVito...

Some day.. I will make the drive.

We would love to have you come down to shoot at one of the matches. Mike definitely keeps things alive on the line. He is tough competition as well as a great guy!

I believe there will be a two day match in September, a State Championship. Keep posted!

You going to Raton for the Natls and Worlds? Mike and I will be there.

Shoot Straight!

Pete

Man I wish I could be there to stir things up. Good luck to all and if you havent shot there, you really need to make an effort to go. A great place to shoot not to mention the good people you will meet. This place is first class......

Good Luck to you and yours Mike

Brad

You guys are a mess. Rod I looked on the map and it's all downhill from your house. Brad I know you have a hot rifle, we would love to have you here with us! Pete, bring your dollar.
We will set up all the flags for this one, had 19 up last time ( looked like the worlds fair ) so wind information should be abundant. I have Sgt David Lingle running the line so we can all shoot and let a master range officer take charge. Everyone is welcome and would love to have you. I recommend getting here early and get setup for the 8:30 sight in. See you on the line.

Get your ammo loaded, we have some shooting to do!!! There is a 80 shot match on July 7th that will get you ready for the 60 shots on the 11th. This is a all day, pack a lunch, eat on the run match. I have first place medals for the winners of FTR and F-Open. We are shooting with the highpower gang and they know how to shoot. Bring your A game.

One week to go until the Midwest Championships! Going to be a blast! Should have a very good turnout. Looking forward to seeing all of you there! We got to put a whuppin' on Mike!

Good Shooting!

Pete

This is a really nice match. Shoot it the first year, meet a lot of great guys, and had a good time.

Mike,

I'd taken a year off from shooting due to work load and family, but excited to be able to make this one. If I recall, at the first match, we weren't required to pull targets. Will it be the same this year?? Maybe my memory is not correct...it's hell to get old! Looking forward to it.

Jim, I am very happy to hear you are coming again! I remember you telling me that you crawled out of a plane and drove all night to shoot that match. That one got my attention!!! And if I remember right you shot very well. (I think you won the F-Open) The shooter IS required to pull targets but you can bring an assistant if needed. We went to a 3 relay rotation since then and score at the line now.

Occasionally we have special circumstances and this match opens the opportunity for just that. I have just made arrangements for a puller to assist a disabled out of state guest. I can only do this for anyone that is unable to find help and cannot shoot otherwise. If anyone else needs this then I need to know right away so I can try to find a paid assistant. I am more than happy to do this for all the right reasons.

I will pay for anyone who pulls for Mike. What you have to do is take your time. Miss placing the spotter after the shot, and mark a few 9's. He likes taking his time.

It really warms my heart to see you two so eager to volunteer. I already have you both down for pit bosses! Thanks for stepping up guys!

I think with so many categories that our sponsor prizes should be given out as attendance prizes. This will give everyone a equal chance to win one.

Mike, considering how much you fish in the summer, how do you find the time to shoot, much less pull someone's target...?

Looking to be a great time for you all...

Rod
