Mid Tompkins Test Drives the SEB Joystick Bipod

Here in Phoenix today we had the first of five scheduled World F-Class Championship practices. The attached video shows the SEB Joystick Bipod in use by Mid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG1qbT7rex0

We did some testing with the Joy-stick bipod this weekend, on two different tubeguns. The joystock mechanism works well -- there is plenty of vertical travel, movement is smooth, and the stick didn't sink between shots -- we were able to remove the left (stick-holding) hand after aiming and the joystick stayed in place. On the other hand, with both the crescent (curved) feet and spike feet we got the jump and hop shown on the above video featuring Mid. When shot from both the rubber section of a mat and from carpet. One tester was able to get the gun to move back (and not hop) by using very heavy cheek and shoulder pressure.

Compare the video of the jennings bipod here at 2:18: http://vimeo.com/61598006

I have some thoughts about different shaped feet that I will share with SEB. Our test unit required an Anchutz rail or Freeland rail track for mounting. I have some other ideas about that...

great video showing SEB's product. First thing I noticed after his first shot was how much HOP the bipod had. Great info Forum Boss that this is not something unusual at this point with the bipod's feet design. BUT it did appear he got back on target quickly which is a good sign the joystick helps the shooter greatly

It would appear the anti-hop characteristics of the Jennings is due to the pronounced rearward rake which puts the feet well out in front of the mounting position. Nice ...

Forum Boss thanks for the video of the Jennings rig. My observation of the SEB in action focused on the hop in recoil and the fact that on Mids you had to hold the joystick in place or it would drop to its lowest point. You point out that your version stayed put and maybe his only needs some minor adjustment to fix. At 56 years young I will be keeping an eye on the Jennings and others as I know that eventually I wont be able to see the irons and will want to continue competing.

Rick & Forum Boss, thank you for your post & video!

I am all ears overhere - I will gather & accommodate most feedback for possible / future improvements.

I have no comment about the JOY-pod & the hop (etc) for the time being.

Cheers,
seb.

Does anyone know who makes that cheek piece?

Interesting bipod that is a lot of hop. I wonder if you put more weight in the bipod if it would hop less and push back more.

Thanks
Trevor
