Mid/long range prone stock

Need some advice on a mid range prone stock I'd like to find a wood 40x stock for a short action. Not many seem to be available, But I see McMillan has a marksman stock which looks fairly close.
The advise I'm looking for is
1. Who makes a replica of the 40x in walnut or laminate
2. Should I look beyond this style of stock for something more modern for ease of comfort while shooting.
3. Does anybody use a McMillan marksman or 40X for midrange/long range which is my intended purpose. What has been your experience with it.

Thanks for any insight

I use the McMillan prone stock, this stock was patterned off the Anschutz 1411 prone stock. Welcome to our sport!

Find one of the newer type prone stocks with near vertical palm grip on the trigger hand. I always had issues with head position on the 40X stocks also. There's lots of improvements over the old 40X stock.

Try someone else's just in position, see what's comfortable.

NRA matches sling prone is all they allow at my home range

I'm not sure what your budget or timeline is but Alex can make you anything you want. He has done two synthetic stocks for me and is currently making a Sitman Prone in ++ Clark to move my Accuracy International into so all my long range stocks are the same.

Having shot a Win Marksman at 1000 would agree that going with a more modern dedicated prone stock is the way to go. Far more comfortable, less fatigue and with adjustable comb and butt plate, easier to get a good NPA at different ranges, etc.

EDIT:

If you are an AR shooter and find them comfortable you really cannot go wrong with an Eliseo tube gun either. No bedding, rock solid and very, very easy to get a good position.

Thanks for the replies Gentlemen. I can see the logic behind the adstable prone stocks I was just hoping for simplicity seems like there are a few places that sell adjustable prone stocks time to make some calls.

OR,
depending on your budget-
Install a WarnerToolCo 6 way adj butt plate & WarnerToolCo thumbwheel adj cheekpiece in a 40X,40XB RangeMaster walnut stock.

(A WTC 12" rail in the 40X,40XB stock fore end works also)
