Please call Gov. Snyders office 517 373 3400 and voice your support for S 1187, this will designate the Wolf as a big game animal. The complete bill can be viewed on the Mi. Gov web site.
Thank you
Steve Bair

Thanks for bringing that to our attention. Just plan on the antis finding a way to block it like they did our wolf season.

I emailed all of my buds and myself and some of them have made the call. It goes directly to the governors office and his girl is very nice, takes down your name & town and puts you down as in favor of him signing the bill.

Thats why we can't hunt them now. The antis saw to it that the were relisted as endangered. One hunt was passed and 1500 licenses sold. 1000 were purchased by antis. Finally we see some light again with this possible wolf management in Michigan. Let's make it happen.

As a foot note, only about 2 dozen wolves or less were killed in the 1st Michigan season that opened the same day as rifle deer season. That was a joke.
And the areas that had the highest wolf populations weren't open.

It's about time they paid for some management. I hope they buy 1,000 more, it really won't change how many are killed.

That's true. You certainly know the facts. My area wasn't opened and it has 2 packs that have done much damage to domestic animals and numerous bear and coyote dogs. Only problem with the antis buying more tags is, there were only 1500 total for sale. If they bought all 1500, no hunters would manage these wolves. Yes, the numbers harvested were pathetic. Still better than none. The season actually needs to start during bear season. I had 5 wolves active on my bear bait 2 years ago. The wolves took over that pit and no bears returned. 5 wolves were in archery range many times while I was in my tree stand. With a tag, I'd have filled it. If not with archery gear, with a side arm. Longer season and more open areas to hunt would change how many were killed.

Not to hijack this thread but as information only, our Governor Walker just sent a letter to President elect Trump asking him to delist the wolf so the State can manage them. Don't know where this will go, but can't hurt.

I was all set to buy a tag, had a camp to go to with a bud that has a good area with lots of wolves and they open it on the same day that I'm going to be in a deer stand hundreds of miles away. I'm not sure what the thought process was but I'm assuming that they actually wanted a limited kill to keep the anti's from screaming too loudly. Like I care. What I do know is when they did their last census there were a few hundred less than before and that was after the pups were born. You yuppers must be doing something right. Of course all the moose that our $$ went into trying to re-establish a viable moose population are gone. But we have wolves that no one that lives anywhere near them wants.

Can't give any details publicly, but don't put ANY credence in wolf population numbers either in MI. or WI.

It sound like Michigan want to make them like a trophy hunt . Look what has happened in Wyoming to the elk . Predators should be treated as such Larry

Same here. Planned on hunting my area on that wolf hunt but I kinda got hijacked by the DNR when they only listed limited areas for the hunt. I had several wolves on my game cam this past fall hunting my feeders. Hopefully this thing works out and hunts will begin again.

That's some good news. Would like to think our governor is proactive in this movement as well. Time will tell.

It's my understanding that the Wisconsin season got shut down because the wolves hadn't fully recovered & moved into northern Illinois yet. My suggestion was to live trap some & drop em in Chicago. My friend in Wisconsin killed 2 in the 2 years that they had a season before the antis screwed it up. I hunted a 6.5yr old buck there this year in Wisconsin for a couple days until I figured out that a wolf pack had moved him.

We went from a deer management area to managing not to see a deer during gun season in a 2.5 section area and it only took three years for that to happen. They don't belong in Central Wisconsin and they shouldn't be protected, they should put a bounty on them all year long if it were up to me.
Doesn't take long for them to wipe out the herd when they eat all year long, also second season we killed some nice bucks, seems like the older bucks usually are the last to go.

I don't believe that is an accurate description of why it was shut down. I never dug into that but I think it was a matter of the antis finding a sympathetic Federal judge willing to believe their lies and subsequently relist the wolves. This of course takes away the State's ability to establish any hunting season to control the numbers. I can say though that concerning WI and MI numbers, they are published lower than what the guys in the field are saying. I don't know the reason why this happens. I have my own idea for why some of these population models are not in line with what the grunts in the field are seeing, but it is speculation. I do subscribe to a one plus one equals two philosophy however.

There is a political problem with our wolf management program. The first thing we need to do is designate the wolf a big game animal. When the day comes that a higher court allows us to start controlling the population hunting will resume.
