Metallic Silhouette Introduction and Fun Day

To wrap up the season, Cascade Shooting Facility (Ravensdale, Washington) will host a smallbore Silhouette Fun Day. The purpose of the event is to raise funds for additional (larger) targets designed for use with open-sighted smallbore rifles, as well as trophies, and achievement pins for 2026.

At the one-day event we will offer seminars regarding how to properly shoot from the standing position, how to use a spotting scope to support other shooters, and how to navigate a silhouette match. A SCATT trainer will be available for rent (print outs included), as well as a buy/sell area. Everything needed will be available on-site for use. And of course, feel free to bring your own smallbore rifle and enjoy the fun.

Additionally, we will host a potluck lunch.

The event will be located at the Cascade Shooting Facility’s C-Range on Sunday, October 12th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Guests and encouraged to attend, and there is no participation fee for this event.

If you’re looking for a fun day watching the targets fly, this is the event to attend.

What's the coolest thing anybody has seen at a silhouette match?

I'll go first:

2-3 years ago, a local-ish guy named Paul bought a CZ 455 American the day before a state match. He pulled the scope from his custom silhouette rifle on match morning, sighted in at the Chicken targets and made educated-adjustments from there... finished with a 53/60. I already knew he is a talented marksman, but that was cool to watch.

Spindletop Smallbore Silhouette regional, April 2023. I shot this Chicken and it jumped up, bounced off the backstop, and landed like this on the stand. You can see the outline of where it was placed on the rail to the left of where it is now.

For those that don't know him, Dan is a talented marksman. This was his first silhouette match. We shared my new-to-me high power silhouette rifle with guestimated come-ups. Chickens, Pigs, Turkeys went fine, but Rams were tough. He finished the day with a 29/40.

2:03 shows what I would call a perfect hit
