Anyone ever try laminating a reflective metalic foil to the underside of their mirage shield to see if it helped at all?
Metal foil is a good idea because it will reflect heat (infrared radiation) coming from the barrel. Conventional shields absorb IR and heat up, thus becoming a source of mirage. Using a foil on the top reflects solar IR and keeps the shield cooler. Silver (aluminum) would be good, but gold would be better. Conversely, black would be the worst choice because the shield would absorb all of the IR and maximize heating.
I only use foil for inside my truck cab and a hat liner
