will using a recoil reducer in butt stock of a 308 bench rest rifle affect accuracy ?

Mercury reducers get most of their recoil reduction just from the added weight. Put in the same weight in lead and you'll get 95% the same reduction without the funky slosh motion.

If you can use one I’d suggest looking into muzzle brakes.They do work very well and some designs are very good at reducing the noise to you.

Cannot tell you about the Mercury type , but I have a SPS Recoil System , ( Mechanical - Spring ) on my Open rifle , 7.62 x 54r ( .308 ) and it works exceptionally well . Just touch contact on my shoulder , and let the spring system collapse , and "Track" the gun straight back . Which-ever system you try , it will take some adjustment to your shooting style .

I disagree about the recoil reduction just coming from the weight.
I had a 1 pound mercury reducer in my custom 505 Gibbs rifle built on a CZ 550 Safari Magnum. It weighed 9lbs loaded with 3 rounds using Norma brass, 148gr of RETUMBO & a 600gr Woodleigh PP @ 2360fps. Calculated recoil is near 170ft/lbs.
Recoil was fearce to say the least.
I removed it to test, bad idea...I got bruised something horrid from just one shot and never tried that again.

They do work, but the level of what is removed is the 'snappiness' of the recoil, or in other words the recoil impulse. The amount of push is the same, just slower.
