Meplats filled with hBN powder

I've been coating my 6mm 105 Berger Hybrids with hBN. My method is to put 100 in a vitamin bottle that is 1/4 filled with BBS, then wedging the bottle in a small tumbler bowl for 3 hours.
Anyway, the meplats are filled with hBN powder. So my question is: Does this affect the BC of the bullet?

I think it could be more bullet balance related to have some hBN inside. Trimmed-pointed bullets not always keep meplat hole, but long range shows improved BC consistency.

Highly unlikely to have any affect you could prove. If there was, they would all be affected equally.

Seems 1/4 capacity is more than plenty.....

I have been impacting SMK's and now Berger Hybrids for a couple years in hBN. I haven't noticed your problem.
Are you maybe using too much hBN? For 100 105's you should be putting about one blade of a medium flat blade screwdriver full of hBN in the bottle with the BBs. I understand bullets shoot much better when excess hBN isn't used.

For about four or five years with first moly and for the past year hBN, I have used what stayed on the end of a popsicle stick for coating 100 bullets. But someone recently suggested using a level 1/4 teaspoon. So I have used that amount for the last 300 Bergers and 200 Amax's. It is too much as I have a lot to wipe off.
Personally, I don't think an open or closed meplat will make any difference at all - BC wise. But I thought I would throw out the question.

Off topic but do you guys know where one could get some HBN in less than a pound quantity?

Maybe an ounce of the stuff.

I also would like to know where to source a small quantity of HBN. Intended use is to try some on cordura bags.

Here is one place that will sell as little as 4 oz. http://sandblastingabrasives.com/Bullet-Lube-Gun-Barrel-Bore-and-Bullet-Lube-Order-Page.html

Erik, I coat my 6mm bullets, 105 AMax and 105 Berger Hybrids. I also coat the bores of my 6mms with a hBN slurry. The process requires that you shoot a coated bullet within 30 minutes of doing the slurry. On my one 6mmXC I coated the bore before the first shot was fired thru the barrel. Now I run several dry patches thru the bore every 20 to 40 rounds - no chemicals. That barrel has 520 rounds thru it with no loss of accuracy.

What is the point to shoot within 30 min of doing the slurry? I boroscoped barrel after applying hBn mixed with alchocol. It is simply wet at least 30 min. Milky but wet. Is it good to shoot with water in bore?

Shooting the coated bullet down the bore within 30 minutes is supposed to 'ceramic' coat the bore. At least 90% alcohol is recommended which should evaporate fairly quickly, leaving just the powder behind.

I use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and my barrel is dry within minutes.

I don't know what size hBN particle you are using but I use MK-hBN-N70 Hex-Boron Nitride (hBN) Nano Powder Particle size 70nm. I have never had the problem you say you are having. I purchase mine from M K Impex Corp. Mississauga, Ontario.

I never said I had a problem. And I really don't care if my meplats are filled with hBN or not. Just wondered if anyone thought it would affect BC.

In regards of that little tiny hole in the bullet tip called a meplat..... Ever have a screen door ripped from your hands on a windy day? Even though the door is 95% air, a turbulence is set up on the door effectively closing the holes. I think the same thing happens to the meplat.
